ASR Light comes on after a few minutes driving

Featured Replies

Good evening,

As in the title, the ASR light has started to come on after as few minutes driving.

The following codes are stored-

  • 17911: Alternator load signal
  • 18265: Engine control module- load signal

I have cleared the first and it comes back.  However when I try to clear the second, I get the message 'Protocol KWP2000'.  The ASR switch seems to work correctly.

The aternator waring light works correctly and there is over 14v across the battery when the engine is running.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check the sensing wire from the alternator. Just search on here, there's loads of information.

Sounds like what happened to mine.

It was a broken wire in the end. Had to get a new plug that was all, just a few quid.

However my ASR did not work...

My cable was broken on both sides of the plug!

Thanks for the replies.

Where is the best place to start the search?  The wires at the plug in the back of the alternator seem to be OK.

Maybe use the search function for more on this, the wires break at the plug/socket junction roughly below the engine/gearbox joint, they are mounted on a bracket, in other words, look under the car and not under the bonnet.

Finally got the time to sort this out.  Found the broken wire from undeneath the car then removed the battery and battery tray in order to be able to get access for soldering from above.

Thanks to those who answered.  Spot on.

One final thought, if litte girls are made of sugar and spice.  Why do they taste of anchovies?

All the best.
