Looking for a diesel Octavia any recommendations/hints and tips

Featured Replies

I'm looking to purchase a diesel Octavia shortly to do some business miles, circa 20-30k a year (possibly more) however I wanted to pick the brains of actual owners on what to look out for etc. I know the DPF can give grief so was looking at either having one already cleaned out or it removed or even a model without I'm not too fussed. Basically I'm after a car with some comfort (I'm getting on in years now...... unfortunately and would like to be able to walk if I'm driving for 4 hours at a time) cruise, parking sensors and Sat Nav. basic company car stuff however I do know the above can be retrofitted and upgraded however least work is preferred but this is early days.

I'm looking to see what people recommend that can give me information on in order that I purchase a car that is fit for purpose and won't cost me two arms and two legs to run. Else I won't be able to run. ;)

Any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated.

First question really is going to be what sort of budget do you have?

And are you looking for a car of a certain age etc?

I do 12-14hrs in my mk2 octavia sport most days (taxi driver), and I've found it to be an extremely comfortable car. A lot more comfortable than my previous mk1

At present budget is around 7k mark, I can push this higher soon if needed but I'm wary of buying a car low mileage for y price and killing it's depreciation by stonking up huge mileage on it in a short space of time. Diminishing returns being what they are I know this lessens in the second year it's just the first drop that is the most difficult, if you know what I mean.

Age wise not really bothered or whether it be CR or PD I'm not fussed either just does what it says on the tin mainly.

Yes I was looking at a PD Sport the other day but it sold far too quickly, good for the owner, but bad for me as it came up before I was ready.

Thanks for replying.

Hi,

I have a 59 reg facelift CR tdi VRS.. I do 20k+ a year and since January when I bought it at 38k it's now at 54k and has quite simply been the most awesome all round mile muncher I've ever owned!

In that time, and timing belt change at £350 at 42k and latest full service and MOT last week £210.

The CR diesel is a peach of an engine, being a VRS it feels a bit special too! I paid £11k for mine, I've seen some with same miles as mine at similar price now.. So they doing well I. My opinion.

My recommendation, get the best you can, and look out for spec (mine has xenons which I love) great drivers car on any road.

If you can find an Octavia SE plus then that should have the sat nav already in, maybe even the PDC and cruise.

If I were spending those many hours in a car I'd certainly want a CR as the diesel clatter is so vastly reduced over other diesels. Maybe its just me but I find standard noisy diesels extremely tiring.

Having a PD myself and a CR Octavia in the family, I'd say there is not much difference between the two when you are driving.....maybe there is a difference from outside, but who cares when you're driving it.

However the CR is cheaper to tax and is better on fuel than the PD. But £7k will probably not get you a CR (unless it has mega miles).....remember it has to have been built after September 2010 to guarantee it's a CR.
