Upgrading Standard Brake Setup

Featured Replies

Personal I would go with the mtec set up

Done some research and ordered some new discs and pads... £205 all in. Will update once fitted!

Thats a good price for front & rear pads & discs,i can see the pads are mintex, what make are the discs? & where did you get them from?

MTEC discs black edition, dimpled and grooved.

I'm probably only keeping the car for a further 6 months or so so what do you think are my best options:

  • Mintex pads and discs - I can get them for £150 supplied and delivered

or

  • Mtec groved and dimpled discs and Mintex pads (with free dot5.1 brake fluid) - £174 supplied and delivered

and just to check, am I looking for the 272mm or the 286mm rear discs (2010 VRS FL)?

anyone have experience with this little package?

the compatibility section only talks about estate and I have a hatch; will this make any difference?

Dan,

I used to use the MINTEX discs but stopped because they are not coated like the Pagid ones are.  If you are only keeping it another 6 months then just replace the standard items like for like with Pagid stuff from Euro Car Parts or CarParts4Less.  Before you make a purchase please remove a wheel and measure the size of the disc to prevent ordering the wrong size. As for brake fluid, if you are not doing any track driving then standard dot4 brake fluid will be fine.

Thanks Radders,

I only looked at these options as the Pagid bits work out to £196 excluding any discount but that's definitely more than these other two options.

I think its 282mm discs that have superceeded the old 286mm discs. I paid 169 for full set of pagid discs and pads all round the other month. Use the discount code on cp4less if you spend over 100 pound you get 15 pound off. CP15LESS is the code. In another thread I have listed the part no.s for rear discs and pads as they can be alittle difficult to find on the cp4less and ecp sites

I would always advise measuring the discs to prevent any disappointment.

I personally rate the PAGID discs as a higher quality product than the MTEC and therefore would not mind paying that little bit extra.
