Vrs lights query

Featured Replies

Hello. My vrs has the auto headlights and it's all good. The owners manual talks about main beam being auto too, and dipping for oncoming traffic. Is this an optional extra? I've been working main beam manually via the stalk. Thanks

Yes, High Beam Assist is a £300 optional extra.

Alternatively, buy a VCDS cable for £230, enable it yourself, and reap all the other benefits of having the cable...

Wiggo is right!

No worries. Not something I would have paid £300 for!

Or save the cost of the cable and find a local VCDS guru who likes wine  :drunk:

Do you need lane assist or another option to enable high beam assist via vcds? What does the car use to "see" the oncoming lights?

It uses the same camera as lane assist. That's all I had to get mine enabled by another member on here.

Mines been enabled by Mr Vee, along with other things

So if your car has high beam assist, can you turn lane assist on? or is lane assist an additional camera?

We dont get lane assist in oz.

You can turn Lane assist in and off as you please via the Car settings on the Radio. You can turn High Beam Assist on and off via the Stalk on the Steering wheel.

Both use the same camera

Unless you have an Elegance then you only have the small camera for HBA.

I tried to spec high beam assist, the dealer said it was fine but the factory contacted them to say it wasn't available in our region. I'm guessing the same is true for lane assist (and that thus may cover nz and oz?)

Just because the factory says its not available in you country doesn't mean it can't be enabled via VCDS. On my MK2 Vrs I had a large didital speedo which supposedly isn't available in the UK but I got mine activated. Find someone with a VCDS and have a look. My car didn't have high beam assist but it does now

Which camera do you have?

If it is just the small one below the mirror then all you can have is HBA.

I wont know till I get my car. But I suspect that its just HBA. HBA is std with "tech pack" in oz (xenons etc). Probably std on our elegance spec too, but AFAIK, no australian models have lane assist.

EDIT: Hmmm....just rechecked specs list. No HBA :( Guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. But we get (and can spec) ACC, so it's not too bad :P

You need to have the stick pushed back into the main beam position I think, then it will switch them on and off automatically (according to the manual anyway).

There is also a check box on the radio display to turn on/off  HBA if its been enabled :)

you also get a symbol  on the dash so you know if it's turned on or off

Indeed, and many thanks to all the guys who have figured out these mods :sun:
