Monte Carlo in Tornado Red arriving soon! Advice on variable boot floor needed.

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Haven't been on here for a long time since my old man sold his Fabia VRS and I was picking people's brains on replacing the rear dampers.

Just ordered a new Citigo to replace my daughter's Picanto 2.

She is off to uni but will still need some wheels for the 5 months she is at home (When you are paying £9K a year you hope for a bit more peace and quiet than that!)

We drove an UP! when they first came out and I have fancied one ever since. We wanted a 4 door and at the time there was only a 3 door UP! so we got the Picanto. No issues with the Picanto but it and I are mutually incompatible.

The Citigo on the other hand is a good fit (be even better if the wheel adjusted for reach but you can't have everything) so I will be running it a couple of days a week to take the pressure off my C30. I average 30K a year so tend to get through cars a bit too quickly.

Stupidly excited about the car. Much angst over whether it should be red or white but got a good deal on the red so have gone down that route.

I have gone for a proper spare wheel but missed out on the variable boot floor.

Very keen to sort this out.

I assume that retro fitting the necessary side mouldings and the floor is pretty straight forward?

Cheers.

Looks like I will be off to the VW dealer then.

Crazy that Skoda don't stock the parts.

I will however contact the supplying dealer (Ridgeway Skoda in Newbury) to see if the situation has changed.

Will keep the forum posted.

Good news and the best colour too :)

Monte is a great little car.

Thats great news.

Ordered my Red Citigo Monte Carlo a few months ago now, been told this morning its finally built  and on its way from the factory.

Good few weeks wait still I suspect.

Any news on this?  I'm going into the dealer to sort the paperwork for my Citigo tomorrow and will be asking the same question.

I bought my kit from VW about 4 weeks ago, £106. Technician dropped it off next morning as when I gave him my address for payment, he told me he lived in my village!

The nice Skoda salesman has confirmed that Skoda DO NOT stock the parts to retrofit a variable boot floor so my only routes are via a second hand set from a scrunched UP! or new from VW.

I must admit that £106 for the parts when you can have one factory fitted (if you have a choice) for £60 seems a bit of a pain.

I found one on Ebay but missed out. I have however found a colleague who has an UP! with the much vaunted boot floor. I am looking at the possibility of buying the cheap bits (Side mouldings and bolts) from VW and using my DIY skills to cut and wrap a panel for the floor. I will keep people informed as to how/if this progresses.

Picking the car up on Thursday. :)

Basically when I ordered my Citigo in July '13... the Skoda IT system couldn't cope with a joint order of a Spare Wheel and Variable Boot Floor.... at the dealership.

I complained to S.UK that wasn't sure why I had to foot the bill for their Ratner-like IT system and over me charge in the process....

Think the factory option was £60 and at the dealer it was £100.....

As the saying goes..... the customer is always right (and slightly less grumpy) when they get their cash back....

Hello, Mr Womersley.
I hope you are enjoying the new car?
I just would like to offer my apologies again, for the carry on we had in regards to the variable boot floor assembly. As you will recall, when we ordered your new Citigo together, it was impossible for me, to order the spare wheel in conjunction with the variable boot floor.
This issue has been resolved since, and future orders can be specified with both options at the same time.
However, Phil from Skoda customer services has contacted me. He explained to me, that you felt uneasy about the fact, any options that a customer can order from the factory, should be chargeable at the same cost, if fitted at a dealer.
The cost of a dealer fitted part will always be higher, than if factory fit , due to shipping cost, storage cost, etc.
The true after market cost for the variable boot floor assembly in your Citigo is just short of £99.00. The only reason, why we were able to fit the boot floor to your Citigo at the factory option price of £60.00 is, that the difference is being paid for by Skoda UK and Benfield. We do this, to say 'sorry' for the inconvenience and because we like happy customers and want you to be completely satisfied with our service.
Kind regards
George

The Citigo has landed!!!

VERY red! Looks great on the black alloys.

Smooth handover. Having driven the Picanto down the Citigo was like a limo driving to work! Nice and smooth.

First full day on the commuting run 55 miles each way and averaged 58mpg. Pretty chuffed with this as it is mainly a fast 70mph cruise which is not quite what the car was designed for.

Set the PID on trip computer mode and had the rather strange experience of starting with a predicted range of 370 miles on the full tank and then coming home after driving 110 miles with the range showing as 375!!!!

Pictures to follow. Just taken a quick snap on the old iPhone thus far to send to my daughter :)

Glad to hear you're liking the car, if you haven't read my project thread just be advised that I didn't get all my screws for the boot floor (bought from a VW dealer) it wasn't an issue though

Thanks for the heads up.

Work been rather manic so the car has had to take a bit of a back seat.

Still very keen to sort out the boot floor. I am going to check out my colleagues UP! tomorrow all being well.
