EPC light. No power

Featured Replies

Hi guys, so today my EPC light came on and I lost all power. Only for half a second or so, then the power cameback in, I nearly gave myself whiplash. Also there was an almighty crunch when the power came back in. It sounded like the gearbox making the noise. Then its just happened again in the way to work. Sods law It happens 3days after the warranty ran out. Although I assume that the extra warranty I was given when I had the new engine will cover it. Thought id ask on here first as no doubt skoda will try and charge me for 'diagnosis'

Best go with them checking the ECU, doing a diagnostic, checking the Plug etc,

Skoda gave you the extended warranty you have on the Replacement Engine,

& that is going to have to cover the work done..

?

Did yours require & has it been in for the DSG Service Campaign work.?

Yes its had the dsg service. Thats when I started noticing things going wrong. But could never get it to happen infront of any skoda staff. Hopefully it will have logged now.

It should not be the Mechatronic Control Unit,

But the Fault described originally with the DSG was a Temporary loss or interruption to Power.

(Only later have they spoken about a Blowing Fuse, & now ignoring the Loss of Power Temporarily without a Blown Fuse.)

Maybe best to give Skoda UK a Call, Log a Case, & if the Engine change has been fine, get the go ahead to have a Master Tech do checks

on the DSG.

Do not let them say the Dealership are responsible,

It is their Service Campaign and they authorise who does it on their behalf.

It was never on the Service Schedule, and was not required as something owners would need to have done,

they should really be checking Mechatronic Control Units rather than taking the cheap Field Action & waiting for failures.

As was done in NZ.  But there they replaced them.

I'll ring them tomorrow George thanks.

If you originally reported the problem before the warranty ran out that should work in your favour regarding costs I would have thought.

Well I reported it being jerky and random power loss. I dnt think this is the same issue. But as I said in OP, I was given a warranty with the new engine.

Costs on DSG where there were Manufacturing Faults, Designs or Workmanship will be down to Skoda / VW for a long time.

& where they had 3-4 years to find out they used the wrong oil at the Factory, they can hardly expect owners to pay for their mistakes.

They put extended warranties on the DSG in other World Regions.

In the UK or EU then they will need to suck it up and pay for their mistakes.

Where they also built poorly manufactured engines that have required replacement,

they will have to take responsibility there.

People really should not need the front of their car taken apart and rebuilt and a New or Refurbished Engine fitted,

& the Manufacturer carry on never accepting the problem was of their making.

Poor Design, Manufacturing, Parts or Quality Control.
