IOS.8 upadte prevents my multimedia system from changing tracks from iPhone?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Since updating my iPhone 5, if i plug in via usb to play my tunes, whenever i click the next track button on the steering wheel, it wont change. It works over bluetooth, but not when plugged inn via USB. Never had this issue before the update... Anyone else experiencing same things?

only way to change my tunes is to click the next button on my iPhone, which is a pain, I want to drive!

Cheers,

Jack

Wouldn't surprise me if Apple have broken it with the update - they normally do!

The pain of being an early adopter!

I had a bit of a muppet moment today... was thinking that it wouldn't play anything after upgrading to iOS 8 via USB or bluetooth.  But then I remembered that I'd had to delete all the music off my phone to make room to do the update.

After putting a bit of music back on, it all worked fine, including skipping tracks.  However, I have noticed that with it connected via USB, it displays all your iTunes Match music, even if not on your phone - but it won't play it back.  If connected via bluetooth, then it only displays music that's actually on the phone...

This appears to have been the worst update sent out, despite the tight controls chapple have on their Software, it is getting worse. - Will not have an ifone.

Some small consolation, that i did an update on my PS3 for GT6 after not playing it for about 3 months, I had to remove over half my saved games from the console from other games saved on there.

This is one of the reasons why I don't buy Apple products - just about every release is a bodge and loads of stuff stops working.

Apart from the fact you have to sell your soul to them and replace every electronic item you own with one made by Apple so that all the features work.

I find that Google and Android are the lesser evil!

@lfc958 - In what way is it the worst update ever?  I'm running the Yosemite beta on my MBP and now iOS8 on my iPhone, and the tighter integration and new features are awesome.  As I said, my only issue was actually my own fault, and the reason I had no space for the update was because I went the pauper's route and only bought a 16GB 5S, which I knew would bite me (and it has many times).

@andyvee - If you don't own any Apple products, you can't really comment on bodges and stuff stopping working.  Yes, it happens sometimes, but then Android isn't exactly without it's flaws.  And and least Google aren't getting any of my data, that's all I can say!

But let's not start that particular holy-war... as far as I'm concerned it's whatever works best for you.  I just can't get on with Android, and my work phone is Windows Phone 8 - which I don't much like either - but I've always got on well with iOS and OS X, and it works for me.  I still run Win7 in a VM for some stuff, and I use Ubuntu droplets on Digital Ocean for stuff too... tools for the job, as they say.

But let's not start that particular holy-war...

Here here, lets keep it on topic and not drift into the usual xxxx haters slanging match.

I have owned plenty of Apple products in the past, and it wasn't an Apple haters post - I just prefer Android. I still have a collection of iPods but have done away with my iPads now.

The moral is let others do the updates on the day they come out, see what bugs and feature issues there are and then decide if you do the update. And that applies to Apple, Android or Microsoft!

Having spent the last 15 years working in IT I have seen some howlers made by all of them in terms of updates or new OS's. Anyone remember Windows ME - even Microsoft have deleted it from history!

As I said - lesser evil - implying that it still has problems.

Are you sure???

Andy, the reason I only quoted part of wiggo’s post was because my comments were not aimed at anyone, just a warning to anyone thinking of derailing the thread as most of the iOS v’s xyz threads end up.

Are you sure???

Given that I use Google as my search engine... and my domains are all in Google Apps accounts (so all my mail passes through there on the way to iCloud)... possibly not.  But at least Microsoft aren't getting any of my data!  Oh, wait... I'm sure they probably are too  .

...or Microsoft Bob? Or Clippy?

LOL - and Apple are as well!

At least if you forget a bank account number or something you can call the FBI and ask them, they are bound to have the data.

Anyway - back on topic - does it look like the Infotainment units are going to need firmware updates to cope with iOS 8?

And don't get me on to Cisco IOS updates, or Brocade code etc etc.

I will do some more testing over the next couple of days, but I'm pretty sure it all works as well as it did before I upgraded my phone.

Nice - that makes a change!

I use MediaMonkey for managing my mp3's and they normally have a meltdown every time a major iOS release take place.

And don't get me on to Cisco IOS updates, or Brocade code etc etc.

Tomorrow Never Dies was on TV last night, and I particularly like the bit where Carver's minion says about releasing the new version of some software, deliberately riddled with bugs so that customers will have to pay for upgrades for years...

But yes, I work with enough NetSec engineers to know they're never fond of having to upgrade switch / router firmware.

Off topic alert - I have just had a major project delayed by over 2 months due to dodgy Brocade code causing inconsistent ARP tables between switches in a fabric, to the point where Brocade had to do an interim engineering release of code to address the issue. And we moan about DAB logos not working or back/forward buttons not working LOL!

To the OP - I know it sounds daft, but have you done a factory reset on the phone since loading the new iOS? Sometimes helps, but is a pain as you have to load everything again!

I've just checked mine. Works fine with ios8 (Columbus). Doesn't always display album art for some reason though, however it did that on ios7 as well.

iOS 8 working fine on mine. As has every Apple update iv ever had.

Yup, did some testing today, and no problems with USB or Bluetooth.

The only thing that's a bit odd, as I said before, is that when connected via USB it shows all your iTunes Match music - probably because that's the setting I've got in iOS... and if I turn it off, I'm guessing (because I didn't try it) that it won't.  The issue with this is that it won't actually play it (and stream it from the cloud)... no idea if any of this is the same as it was with iOS7 because I hadn't tried it before.
