Chirping noise when locking/unlocking

Featured Replies

Hi. 1st post. I've just bought a VRS and am wondering if the chirping noise when locking/unlocking the car can be silenced? Any help appreciated.

I've got Amundsen/Maxi dot.

It is in the Opening and Closing menu on the Infotainment unit under Car and Settings. Acoustic confirmation something or other.

RTFM!

Andyvee is spot on. I like the audio confirmation that I have locked the car. It gives me piece of mind by not making me look / check car is actually locked all the time

I find the thunk of the locks closing when you click the key plenty loud enough to confirm the car's locked, don't need the plips.

My mirrors fold in when locked - easy visual confirmation

Had the chirps on for a week until I decided better off without them

I find them handy for when it's lashing down with rain. I never really want to hang around to see the lights flash or listen for a subtle clunk.

It works the vice versa as well. If you forgot to lock the car, its easy to spot... which incidentally happend to me recently.

Why the **** they dont make auto lock/unlock when you leave/approach the car, how hard can it be?

Which would you want to die first, the battery in the key or the battery in the car?  One would need to be continuously looking for the other, transmitting a "are you near me?" signal.  And unless it's going to open the door for you too, grabbing the door handle unlocks it (if you have KESSY) at the point you want it unlocked (i.e. when you're about to open the door).  Imagine walking (yes, I know) up to the shops for a pint of milk... out the front door, past the car... oh wait, it's just unlocked itself and I don't want it too... now I'm going to wonder if it's locked itself again as I walk off... or even worse, if it opens the door for you when you're in a car park... cue damage to two cars.

So, in answer to your question - technically, it would not be hard at all.  But why the **** would you want or need it to?

Agreed. But the pint of milk story would result in a locked car as it locks itself again if a door isnt opened within a set time.

Not if the scrote waiting nearby has kindly opened the door for you...and removed your ipod, sat nav, phone, or whatever else you've foolishly left inside...

.... or the car itself.

I actually was thinking about kessy (which I dont have) but I didnt know you need to manually lock the car when leaving away even with kessy.

I had a situation not so long ago where a hire car was delivered to my house and the keys placed through the letter box. I was away for 2 nights not realising the car had been delivered. They keys were close enough to the car so that had anyone tried the doors, it would have opened - and started! Never found out how far it could have been taken or if it would have shut down etc

I hate KESSY and wish I didn't have it. I did not spec it, it comes with the trim level I chose. When I walk up to my car, the interior lights turn on, so it does detect my presence. I haven't tested if someone can then open the doors. It will not start without detecting the keys in the vehicle, though, nor will it let you lock the doors if it knows they're inside. It also doesn't turn off if it loses comms with them while driving, at least not as long as I've tested it.

However, when I wash the car, I have to keep the keys far away or it will lock/unlock constantly. Stupid tech. I would gladly pay £1000 to put a standard ignition barrel in instead.

Thanks for the advice. Found the option to turn off acoustic confirmation. And it worked. But when I opened the car with other set of keys it chirped again and I had to repeat the process. Does easy key load it's own set of preferences when you unlock?

More than just unlocking, most personalisations are key specific.

It always annoyed me on the MK2 and I turned it off straight away when I get the MK2, but after 2 days I turned it back on as I missed it!

Slightly off topic, but what other aspects of the car can be personalised to keys?
