'buzzing' noise in dash

Featured Replies

I know there are a few threads with 'rattles' as the main theme, but can anyone help me with this...

I've a 3 month old Octy II Elegance tdi.

When I accelerate through 30-40 a 'buzzing' noise comes from, I think, inside the centre of the dash by the hazard warning button/centre air vents. It seems to be some sort of vibration noise. It's not a major problem but it's driving me MAD :twirl:

I have a couple of little niggles like this that drive me bonkers... And the dealer hates them too...

I know the dash mount on the Fabias has been common to vibrate, cured by taking out the centre vents and wedging cycle innertube or similar in the mount! Could be the case with the Octy too?

Good luck in getting it found and fixed!

This is probably completely irrelevant but a few years back I had something just like that in a Primera GT. I shoved pieces of foam rubber in every nook and cranny, inside the glove box etc etc. Turned out to be the rear view mirror!! [Don't ask!]

I have a buzz / rattle at certain revs from around the ash tray area, also a problem with the door trim rubbing against the dash. I haven't had time to try and sort these out yet so just turn the music up :)

That's cheating!

Could be a long shot but have you checked that the buzz is not from the sunglasses holder? I had a buzz from there and it seemed to be coming the dash at first.

Yes, my sunglasses holder buzzes. Very annoying.

Hi

Just had the same thing, dealer said it was the turbo, I said it wasn,t.

Dealer booked car in to replace turbo.

Guess what?

It was not the turbo, but EMU bracket inside of the windscreen scuttle.

Moved bracket, problem gone.

I hope this helps.:)

I have a buzzing from behind the dash at between 3000 and 3300 rpm. Could be this. How do you get to the bracket?

It's a pity modern cars are tricky to dismantle - it would be good if you could easily take off bits one at a time till the noise stopped. Years ago I did that for clatter behind back seats of a Mk 1 Escort and eventually found a small overlap weld between boot and cabin had parted. Put two small self tappers through and it was cured. The modern dash and door trims involve too many [often breakable] studs and clips - cheaper than screws I suppose.

And I suppose you can keep an Ostrich in the boot....

I get a buzz if I put my sunglasses in a certain way in the sunglass holder, the usual test is to take out all loose items and see if it happens.

Also I have the audience audio system with 6 CD's loaded and occassionly get a buzz from that at 2500-3000 rpm, dealer said it could be that the discs are mp3 burnt discs!

I had a Citroen Picasso for 3 years before the Octy... the buzzing noise on that was actually the parking-ticket clip on the rhs of the windscreen... it seemed to come from anywhere but there and I thought I was going mad... but that was it. I tried wedging a piece of card in it and the noise stopped.

Tony

Remove wiper arms, remove windscreen plastic scuttle and ther it is.
