Rapid or Rapide?

Featured Replies

I can't find anything on this so I thought I'd ask here.

In some of the reviews I've read the reviewer has made a comment about the name not suiting the car as it's not very fast.

When I had my old 136 everyone from owners to the garages pronounced the name "Ra-peed" but most of the time for the new one they pronounce it Rapid so which is it?

I'm staying with Ra-peed.

Incidentally when I had my old modified 136 I modified the badge so that it read "Rabid 136"

I think rapid. Aston make the rapide

Aston brought out the Rapide in 2010 but Rapid has been used a couple of times by Skoda since 1935

When on the factory tour in Mladá Boleslav the guide pronounced it as Ra-pid.

And they are pronounced differently. Hence my early post .... Skoda Rapid. Aston Martin Rapide.

I think the Aston will be quicker than our cars no mater how we pronounce it ;)

The reason for my question was to find out it the correct pronunciation based on what everyone I came into contact called the 80s version when I had mine. Because the Skoda is spelt Rapid doesn't necessarily follow that this is how it is pronounced - eg I've heard many different versions of how Hyundai is pronounced. A British company selling something that they wanted to be called the Rapide would have to spell it in such a way that no one would be in any doubt how it was pronounced.

Looks like this has cleared it up so Rapid it is, or isn't depending on what we're talking about

Anyway, "when the hell am I getting my Rapid?", is the question I'm still waiting to be answered. I think I need to call the dealer again, they didn't have a build date two weeks ago so they must have something now. :wonder:
