Boot light and tailgate lock

I have noticed recently when I open the boot on my Yeti, sometimes the boot light doesn't come on. Sometimes it comes on after a few seconds. If I go in the boot sometimes without opening a door it auto re-arms.

I suspect the micro switch in the lock mechanism to be at fault, but having removed the lock today I cant even see the switch. I can hear it clicking as I manualy move the lock mechanicals.

Has anyone ever had any experience of one of these locks before.

I may have to take it to the main dealers for a coat of looking at.

Microswitches is inside of the lock and unless you are really good with electronics it normally means a new one!

Don't be too quick to blame the micro switch.  The boot light on my Yeti fails to come on more often than not and it's entirely due to the poor design of bulb holder, which doesn't hold the bulb tightly against the terminals.  Check the bulb holder first (sometimes my lighte will come on if I just tap the trim by the bulb holder); it may be as simple as bending a contact inside the bulb holder slightly, BUT remember that the contacts are live when you have the boot door open (assuming that the micro switch is working) and be careful not to short them out.  I've been trying for the last year to make the cursed thing work consistently - if they were cheaper, I'd buy a complete LED replacement unit.

 

A voltmeter on the bulb holder contacts will soon tell you whether the holder is receiving voltage, and if not then the plug behind it can also be disconnected and tested.  If there's no voltage there then the micro switch itself is suspect.

It is definitely the switch in the lock mechanism. This is because on a full unlock if I open the tailgate only, after a short while the Yeti auto re-arms the alarm and locks the doors. If the switch was operating correctly this wouldn't happen.

It is booked in at the dealers to be replaced under warranty along with the slowly disintegrating tailgate badge.

Could the re-arm be an anti-theft measure. If the vehicle has not been entered and started within a set time it will re-arm. My VW Touran did this.

That is what mine does, so I don't think it is a fault
