Iphone goes crackers when plugged into the USB Port

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've noticed when I plug my phone into the usb port, it goes nuts (like flicking between charging/not charging for about 1 minute after) - Anyone elses do this? Could just be my lead I guess.

Cheers

Could just be Apple trying to install the U2 album into your car :p

For USB2.0 there are 2 charging currents, 500mA or 1A, I've not been able to find out what the USB port in the Octy will provide. Also, iDevices have a reputation for being problematic when used with 3rd party chargers, including USB ports. The following threads might give you some clues, e.g. making sure it's not going into mass storage mode when you plug it in.

Cheers for that! Will have a read. Seems to sort itself out after a minute or so - maybe should just get the charger out instead! ;)

Is it an iPhone 5?  Using an official Apple cable or a generic?  When I used a generic with mine in my last car, it did exactly the same - went spazzo.  An official Lightning cable worked fine though.

The Apple cables aren't just a cable, there are electronics in them as well that the generic ones don't have so if it's a generic cable, that may be the cause.

I have an official apple lightning cable in my Fabia attached to my connects2. Since iOS 7 both a 5 and 5s do what you describe on some journeys but not others - we have so far associated it with the cable getting really hot - but that isn't necessarily the case. I have not tried it with the 6 yet!

Sodding annoying as it constantly vibrates to say the charger has been connected. Instantly, music or GPS etc. do not stop when it thinks the charge has been lost and regained.

I've found the USB port to be inconsistent at charging the phone, either with official cables or an Amazon basics lightning cable.

Have resorted to just using a car USB charger in the 12v socket for consistent charging.

Much better than the chaotic on and off sound I was getting using the in car USB. Shame as it was a really neat answer to charging the phone in the car....

Glad to hear it's not just mine then! I'm on a 4s probably with a non genuine cable! Will revert to the old fashioned ways then!

Cheers all!
