Rear Screen Washer Wont Work?

Featured Replies

Just realized the other day my car has a Rear screen washer. Tought it never had one as it never worked LOL Only realized as i heard the motor running and no water coming out. Checked it on another fabia and it works.

Done a bit of reading and from what I know is that there's a pipe that must have disconnected some where under the bonnet. Can some one tell me where to look please? Engine is a 1.2 HTP

Also I held the rear screen washer on for about 5 secs and some splashes of water hit the bottom of the windscreen but cant figure out from where? Do I have to remove the engine cover?

Thanks

It can pop off at four places:

At the washer pump under the passenger side front wheel arch.

At the bulkhead.

Behind the passenger side rear wheel arch trim next to the back seat.

At the washer nozzle connection inside the tailgate.

Sounds like yours might have disconnected at the bulkhead if it's slightly spraying the front screen. It's near the ABS unit  (metal thing with lots of metal brake pipes connected to it).

This was mine, I did away with the silly connector and sleeved it with a bit of pipe...

Mine was same as above.

Snap. On a 2001 fabia.

And if you're really unlucky. It'll be broken in the motor mech too so will leak through your boot trim when you rejoin the pipe work. Hopefully it won't be!

Stand car on dry level ground and operate rearwashers. Then look under the front for a wet patch. If there-it's the front bulk head problem. Somewhere near ABS unit is a through pipe.ONCE SORTED- fill wash bottle with at least50/50 mix as anything less will pop pipe again.

Thanks for all your replies! Checked the bulkhead today and its its joined! Pipe isn't wet either so is not a leak.. I've gone around the car in the other places it could be disconnected and seeing if i can smell the screen wash. Cant smell it anywhere so I don't understand where it could be. Might have to check each place which can be a pain! Also no leaks on the floor either.

Before I check the other 3 connections just wanted some info.

Do i have to take the passenger wheel off to check behind the wheel arch?

How do I remove the trim next to the back seat (passenger side)?

And how to remove the tailgate on the boot?

Do they come off fairly easy or will I need to use some force?

Thanks!!

To check the front connector.

First of all, operate the rear screen washer and look underneath to see where it's dripping from.

If at the front, put the steering on full RH lock, undo about 4 torx screws that hold the front part of the LH front wing liner from the spoiler upwards, you can now prise the inner wing out, prop it open with a 3"-4" spacer, you can just manage to push them back together.

To stop it happening again, put in plenty of screen wash liquid to stop it freezing up.

You don't have to take the wheel off - the washer pipe connection is inside the car. The side trim just pulls off, it's held on with a couple of plastic trim plugs that pull out. Obviously you need to fold the seat down for better access.

The tailgate trim panel is held on with 14 metal trim clips. It needs a hefty pull around the panel to get it off. Getting it back on can be a real pain as well.

Well those are the only joints in the pipe. Mine didn't work when I first got the car and I found that the pipe joints had disconnected at both the pump and bulkhead.

OK just checked all the connections was a bit of pain but all done. It was disconnected at the pump. But no screen wash comes threw.. I left it disconnected and ran the screen wash nothing coming threw. Everywhere else is connected so don't understand what it can be..

The nozzle itself is probably blocked where the flow turns 90 degrees just before it emerges.  It was on ours.  I seem to remember you can 'just' pull the whole thing out and clear it (thoroughly), then push it back in carefully.

Thats not the problem theres no screen wash coming threw the pipes. Theres no water coming threw the pump. No leaks on the floor either..

Well in that case there are only a couple of possibilities left.

The reservoir is empty.

The pump isn't working (for the rearward pumping).

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but you must be sure it isn't the first possibility before you look into the second one.

The reservoir is full. I refilled it a few days ago. The front work so its definitely something wrong with the pump..

But I can hear the motor when I try turn it on.

Is this what I need?

Looks like it.  But you may be able to fix the one you have. If you can hear it 'trying' to pump, then there must be a blockage, probably within that blue bit, as that seems to be where it gets directed to either the front screen or the rear.  It looks to me like that blue bit can be removed from the pump, and may be taken apart?

Maybe a filter within the pump is blocked.

Hi. Had a look again at the pump and realized it was blocked! Cleared it out and screen wash started coming threw. Was leaking near the back seat and on the tailgate in the boot.

Fixed the one near the rear seat, just need clipping in.

My problem is now that the cable is connected on the tailgate but screen wash is still coming threw.. Seems I have the problem DAVE89 mentioned above. Seems im really unlucky here!

Is there a fix for this?

Also any easy way in getting the trim back on in the tailgate? Seems VERY TRICKY LOL

Cheers

There's a repair kit available but it's expensive. Might be better off getting a second hand motor unit.

The tailgate panel is a real pain. You have to make sure the clips are lined up with the holes. God knows how they do it at the factory.

Wow that doesn't come cheap. Even the motor is like £30 to £35.. I probably wont bother! No wonder it was disconnected under the wheel arch. It must have been leaking inside the boot trim and the previous owner must have just disconnected it from there..

Looks like its going to take me a while to get that boot trim on!

Thanks for the help guys really appreciated.

The boot trim needs proper bending in around the ends of the trims going up the side of the boot before clipping back in.  Not a great bit of design to be honest, but I seem to be well practised at it now :D
