4x4 Response UK

Featured Replies

4x4 Response is a grouping of more than 30 groups across the county who supply voluntary aid to various bodies in times of inclement weather.

Lots of the Groups are always in need of more volunteers, but there is an erroneous belief that you need a "roughtie toughtie" tricked up Defender type vehicle to join. That is certainly not the case as this link confirms:

So, all you 4x4 owners, how about joining with us, and showing just how good and effective the Yeti is?

Are you a Mid Wales member Graham? Might get a few mates with their Land Rovers to take a look at it

Round here we've done something similar on a local basis - not to the same extent but certainly over the last few years when we've had bad weather and snow myself with the Octy 4x4 and a local builder with a Hilux have helped out some of the locals (especially the elderly) by getting them to the shops, to hospital / doctors appointments etc. or siply by getting shopping in for them when they couldn'y get thier own cars out of the drive etc.

Response 4x4 looks to be a good organisation!

I wasted hours a couple of years back messaging and emailing the local 4x4 response 'head' and just got no replies so I gave up. I also signed up on the forum too and messaged someone on there and on their FB page. Sad, as it would have been something id happily do and would have enjoyed. :( I'll just stick to running elderly neighbours around and pulling out local cars (usually beemers and mercs!) from the road side ditches.

I know they had "problems" with some personnel in the Herts area at one time, but it seem to be OK now.

If you give Tony Ferrari an email after the weekend I'm sure he will be able to help ([email protected]) I spent the day at the Show with him.

Thanks. Tony was the one I messaged on the FB group but no reply sadly... I'll give it another go though. :)

The FB Group probably isn't the best used section, I'm afraid, although that should change. I'm sure Tony will reply to an email, if not let me know and I'll get in touch with him.

I'd be really interested in getting some tuition in my own car, to learn a bit about what it can do offroad.

I'd be worried about damaging it though !

Wonder if there's anywhere Derbyshire-ish that I could go ?

Damage is always a possibility, even driving down the road in town, but good training will reduce the likelihood as low as possible.

From my training experience it is extremely unlikely.

Well, a few days after registering for Sussex 4X4 Response, still no notification that my membership has been authorised.

Quite frankly, I'm not impressed, and I sincerely hope that their response in a time of crisis is a LOT bl00dy quicker than their response on the forum.  :wall:

I'm so fed up of waiting for these idiots, that I have changed my mind and am no longer interested in becoming a member.

I'm sorry Graham, but their USELESS. :@

When did you send your application?

Please remember you are dealing with VOLUNTEERS so it might take m a few days for it to be dealt with, but I can assure you that when we are needed the response will be fine.

I can't comment on how Sussex 4x4 Response works, but in Wessex 4x4 Reponse, there are only a small number of individuals involved in applications.  Membership secretary will allocate an applicant to a team (based on home address), and inform the team manager.  Team manager would then be in touch to arrange a short meeting to make sure the paperwork is filled out right and to answer any questions,

On the operational side, our systems do not rely on a single person, and actions happen much much quicker.

As Graham has said we are all volunteers, and most have jobs and families that can sometimes restrict the time available.

Well...I emailed them a week ago, and....nothing yet  :|

I'm sure they will be in touch as soon as they can, but please remember that we are all VOLUNTEERS.

For those without 4x4, a few mountain rescue teams are looking for volunteers, DM me if you'd like more info, especially if you have mountaineering skills.

I looked into joining MR a few years ago, initially approached Buxton MRT but they decided Derby would be better. However we decided that I probably couldn't commit enough time.

Something I'd still like to do in the future though.

I would like to add that I am a member of Wessex 4X4 Response and am proud to have had the opportunity of being able to assist our emergency services.

Wessex 4X4 have had a busy spring this year working in Somerset and Dorset in the early part of the year on flood assistance.

Members run up over 18000 miles during those wet and busy weeks!

Socially a great group of people (that includes you Scott!) too.

Jerry
