Insurance renewal

Featured Replies

Just got my renewal notice from Liverpool Victoria, mods aren't mentioned as either being included or excluded so I gave them a call. They said all my existing mods are covered but I can't do anything else, however they don't have a list of my mods and don't need one.

So I'm not convinced with this so I'm looking at alternative insurers, I'm planning on trying the following:

Adrian Flux

Greenlight

Brentacre

So is there any others I should be considering bearing in mind I have a considerable number of mods both performance and styling.

Chris Knott (as advertised on here) seem to give good quotes for modified and highly modified cars :D

Ooops forgot about them!

I recently renewed with LV. I have checked a number of times that they have recorded my car's mods but, like EddyH, they aren't listed on my insurance paperwork. Under LV's current rules I am allowed to fit a towbar and alloys without any effect on premium, and I also have a letter clearing me to have Jabba's variable boost controller fitted.

mines up shortly too, i tried greenlight and they were loadsa money, so far the best has been elephant but will try more :)

Greenligh wont cover me because of my post code :thumbdwn:

A mate in work had lunch this week with some people from LV (work for a software company). Got on the subject of car insurance  Apparently they we loosing a **** load of cash from insurance claims. Since changing their policy they have lost a load of buisness but are making more money due to less claims being made.

I won't even consider Elephant due to their ridiculous policy on mods, e.g. they'll cover a car with mods but in the event of a claim will only replace with standard parts so if I were to have a claim which involved 1 damaged wheel my 18" OZ would be replaced with a OEM 16" wheel.

Brentacre have got the quote down to

How would they know?

If you had a big prang and smashed the car up it'll be pretty difficult for them to put it on rollers!!

To get over 250bhp I'd need a big turbo or NOS, both are pretty obvious.

True :D

Or big cams and a bored out block - less easy to spot!

Also even with a big turbo on they would have to proove that you were putting out over 250 wouldn't they?

Just spoke to Chris Knott and faxed them a list of mods, once they get back to me I'll make my decision on who to go with.

I doubt the cams would be of much benefit on the 1.8T.

I'm sure if I had a big turbo I'd post my figures on here so it wouldn't take much finding out. Also what's the point in declaring all my mods only to risk voiding the insurance by breaking the imposed limit.

I want to stay legal so I'll stick to any imposed limits or change my cover as necessary.

Chris Knott came up with the goods so got my business. A further

Eddy

Just about to start the same process, Ive become like you distinctly nervous with L&V, It all seems too vague so I guess I will start with Chris Knott & Mr Flux

Bit of a nerve but any chance you could post or PM me the contact details for the ones you tried. Being an "older person" I might get slightly different responses.
