Heavy PAS when moving slow

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just bought a Fabia on a 2002 plate for my daughter and discovered the power steering issues... I have read some threads on here and they seem helpful but my issue is that the PAS works ok when first started  and when driving at normal speeds. But once I slow down to park or to a slow speed then the steering becomes heavy. Seems to go ok again when going back up to speed. My thoughts are. Is it the battery and the reving engine adds a but more power or is one of the wheel sensors involved with the PAS.

Any help on this would be welcome

It'll be the alternator and therefore the battery, test the voltage from the alternator at idle, it should be over 14V, stop the engine then measure the battery, it should be over 12.5V.

Had this on a 2001 elegance recently. New battery and new alternator didn't cure It. Most problems are battery related with the steering however.

New steering angle sensor solved the issue in the end. Steering returned to normal with minimal when engine speed was low after this was fitted
