Towbar fitting ?

Featured Replies

Hey all I'm looking at getting a towbar for my octavia vrs on a 08 plate , has anyone else fitted 1 ? Are they difficult to fit on these ?

Any help would be great !!

I fitted one to an 07 plate estate.

It involved taking a lot of the interior apart and removing the rear bumper and lights.

I wasn't too difficult and I'd do it again instead of paying someone but you'll be in for a fun time!

The wiring was fun too using a powered relay. It was easier to check with a light board plugged in.

Let me know if you want an py further advice.

My next question is did u wanna help fit it lol , right ok people want £325 to fit and supply , I can get a tow bar with the electric's for £117

Lol.

I got a second hand witter for £90. Saved a fortune.

Mate if I didn't have a million things on at the moment I might have volunteered.

My Haynes manual helped.

Good luck.

Lol nice 1 , I'm in no rush I can wait for ya to be less busy

Hi

go on the net and download the fitting instructions, these will show how to remove the rear bumper, purchase a 7 way bypass relay, this is a must, and then prepare yourself for alot of internal trim removal. It all takes time but loads of money can be saved. Look on fleebay for the towbar from "towbarman01" scroll down the page and the instructions are listed.

I did mine in march and all went well.

Do u have the instructions already downloaded at all freedom ?

I can add diagrams for an estate if that helps when I get back to my computer. I can also offer advice as needed.

I do have a detachable towbar with dedicated 7-pin electrics for sale in the relevant section if you haven't already got one.

That comes with full instruction booklets for the towbar & electrics.

No I have nothing yet - will yours fit mine tho as its a hatch ? Could you help fit ?

PM responded to.

It does fit a hatch or combi, but will double check the Vrs though.

It's not an official kit that's what I'm trying to buy if poss the 1 I have is a 7 pin socket with the 7 wires that are loose at the moment

Then you will definitely need some kind of an adapter between the 7 wires and the car.

If you connect directly to one of the rear clusters then the car will get quite upset as it monitors each bulb. There are some cheaper ones that spice into the lighting loom but don't cause any additional load which might be suitable for your needs. However, I would definitely recommend the official kit if possible as that way the car can change it's behaviour depending on if a trailer is attached.

I'd suggest a powered relay so that you don't upset the car.

All I'm gonna be using on it is a trailer for now , do u recommend any kind of kits ?

I think I used a Haynes manual. Got it wrong so connected a light bar and sorted it out.

Yes but if you don't use a powered relay the tow bar electrics will suck current from the cars wiring harness and your car will throw a wobbly as it will think it's got loads of bulbs out

Search octavia tow bar wiring in Google. The first image is a powered relay wiring diagram. The tricky but is finding which is which on your car.

I have a relay but still has 7 loose wires ? I'm guessing need to go to the car loom , just not sure which wires to chop in to ?

Have you got a Haynes manual?

  • Author

No I don't but maybe thinking I'll have to go and get 1 tho lol

That's the relay I have , only thing I can do is connect to the car as not sure which wires to go to
