What do you declare and what don't you bother declaring?

Featured Replies

Hope you've declared your dash cam. :)

In all seriousness my insurance company have already said they are also classed as a mod and need adding to a policy.

Yeah mine are declared :)

Declare everything.  I mean EVERYTHING.  I had one insurer tell me that a non-skoda lightbulb (direct replacement H7 from halfords) was classed as a modification in their eyes.

I bet you're fed up of calling them every time you put a different brand of fuel in. I'm going out on a limb here and going to guess it was an Indian call centre that said that.

Lucky I always use the same fuel and fill up in the local Texaco :bandit:

No, I cancelled my policy and left them immediately after having the discussion about the bulbs..  I phoned them to enquire about going to uprated discs / EBC pads.

It was a UK call center (I think Scotland).  Having worked in the insurance industry for over ten years, there is no way I was going to put up with that bullsh!t.

Declare Anything and everything

Other wise it would/could be cheaper to drive around with no insurance at all

Declare everything, majority wont increase what you pay but at least they have a list so they cant be picky and declare it void if you have an accident.

i am sure i read somewhere that a woman had an accident and was having trouble being paid out because she hadnt declared a flower vinyl on her bonnet.

Declare it all, otherwise you will be another one of those uninsured drivers that ensure the rest of us pay higher premiums...

Not a dig at you per say BUT if you do not declare your mods and you have an accident, your fault or not, you are wide open to prosecution for driving with no insurance as it will be null and void if you have not declared ALL changes from manufacturers original spec.

What about the dangling tree air freshener's, dints, scratches or stone chips? None of those come as part of the standard spec  :notme:

That wasn't a dig at you btw, more at the insurers for been so fussy. I agree everything should be declared, it actually worked out cheaper to declare my mods and have modified car insurance than it was with the car standard!

I know, I found the same! I guess they see modded cars (to a degree) as enthusiasts cars and see that they will be looked after maybe?

I guess declaring the likes of 312mm brake upgrade and security cam also help!

It can get a bit silly like Wardy says....

How about declaring.....

glovebox contents.....

material seat covers......

tax disk holder.......

shopping on the backseat.....

petrol in a petrol cannister in the boot ?

haven't washed the car ( it could look a completely different colour if its caked in mud....is that declarable or relevant to an accident lol)

In an ideal world, there would be no silliness about insurance and it would be more about risk and what you cost them counts, how much you claim only

But I do tend to agree, anything remotely seeming like worth mentioning should do it. If you can't afford it, don't do it !!!
