Is there a cheaper way?

Featured Replies

I have a lovely VRS TSI DSG hatch, 63 plate and now on 17.5k miles.

Absolutely love the car, performance is amazing and economy has seen a best return on a long trip of 50.3mpg (brim to brim) so well pleased.

It was a dealer demo car so didn't have all the spec I wanted, however price was good so took the plunge and haven't looked back over the last several months of ownership.

The one thing I do miss though is cruise control. I do a lot of motorway mileage and do miss being able to rest the foot and let the car do the work.

I asked my local dealer how much to retrofit and was told around £385 all in.

So my question is,.....surely there is a cheaper way as I believe the parts only cost just over a £100 and it takes less than an hour to program, so if the dealer charges about £80 an hour ( or more), where's the extra £200 notes going??

Hoping someone can shed some light on a cheaper way to fit this.

Thanks in advance.

Think you also need some sort of unlock code from the factory so the car will accept the new function.... not sure what that cost but I assume (maybe wrongly) that this would make none dealer retrofit a problem....

If you do find a cheaper way, be sure to come back and tell us.

I'm sure in the "retrofit cruise" thread there was someone claiming to work at a dealer and having done a number of retrofits just using instructions from Skoda and no special codes.

Pm Tech1e on here. He may be able to help out. It will most probably need coding in vcds.

I though CC was standard on the VRS?

Not the early models.

email sent, awaiting response. See they do it for the VW's and Audi's so will report back once I hear. Thanks for the heads up.

Will bear this in mind. As mentioned, parts aren't that much and I'm sure some of our VCDS specialists should be able to code ok,...
