Octavia III Amundsen map details

Featured Replies

I have only used this system for the first time this week.

Is it possible to have less information showing on the map page when you are following a route?

I find there is far too much extra information on the screen (road names, poi etc) crowded onto the map screen which makes it difficult for me to follow the route on the screen. On my old Garmin sat nav the route is much more defined with less information around it.

Any ideas?

Yes, I am not in the same country as my car at the moment so this answer may be a little sketchy.

On the settings menu you can chose how much information is displayed, just untick the boxes to see less clutter.

I still use a 2005 Garmin (with a  2008 map) in unfamiliar areas as it the best I've used. My Skoda copes with altered juctions but main A and M roads don't move much! Reading the signs and a sense of direction works but its always the last 200 meters that cause issues!

I too am a bit disappionted with the system. My previous Tom tom, gave audible cam warnings, can I import that system via an  SD card?

Any help would be much appreciated

No, there is no way to "update" a list of Gatso's. The best you can do is import a list of POI to the system from what I discovered.

It is illegal in some European countries to make use of passive detection for locating speed cameras etc, France being one of them. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/overseas/radar-detectors-in-france.html

However, this does not apply in the UK yet.

As above it can't be done. There is some discussion about this in the Pocketgpsworld forum.

Same on our Mitsubishi can't put them in the built in sat nag either.

My old Garmin is 10 years old next year. I fitted a new battery using a You Tube video.

One of the (very few) things I wish could be better on the Octavia is the resolution on the Amundsen screen - pretty much for this reason alone. The resolution on the Columbus looks a great deal better (though I've not seen one in the flesh) and I'd imagine that it makes the map easier to understand at a glance. I appreciate that the bigger screen will help as well of course.

For everything else it's fine, but where the map is involved I do find it a bit difficult to read without basically sitting and staring at the thing.
