Opinions on LUK clutch kits

Featured Replies

Looking at a LUK clutch and flywheel for my octy, when I was buying a LUK kit for my e36 m3 a few years ago I was told LUK kits aren't very good?

Also it's a vr6 clutch and g60 flywheel by the way, would it be ok to use on a 6 speed cupra box as I plan to upgrade soon.

Any advice/info would be much appreciated :)

LUK clutch kits become very bad to rubbish.

I work on auto parts and I see them every day.The problem are the DMFs wich are inacceptable, from brand new have a lot of play in every direction.

Spend more and buy Sachs,is what I reccoment to all my custommers.

The LUK VR6 clutch kit will be fine. Had mine for years.

LUK are the OEM for the standard clutch and DMF on your car.

I wouldn't say Sachs are any better or worse than LUK. Both massive German OEM's that produce quality parts. They should both be at the top of your list.

The brands to avoid would probably be things like Techniclutch, Transmech etc.

LUK are ok, but I fitted a Sachs purely because at the time I was buying the Sachs was on offer and worked out cheaper than the LUK.

mixed views then.. :|  i think i will have a look around and see what deal i can find on a sachs

Just had new LUK flywheel and clutch fitted, done 650 miles gentle miles with mixture of town driving and motorway. Clutch slipping in 4th and 5th gear around when turbo kicks in or I accelerate......happens mainly when it's cold as well..... When I first get in the car....

Either you haven't bedded it in properly or you have a leak or something that causing the slippage as 650 miles it won't happen as you don't have big power

I've got a luk g60/vr6 smf and it's been great! Done about 2k on it, I use it everyday for work.

as explained in my comment. Gentle miles. I'm fully aware of the bedding in process and done as advised by my mechanic.

He has stated in the first post vr6 and g60 this is single mass fly not duel mass ,

Buy a genuine vw vr6 and g60 clutch and fly you cant go wrong I had this with revo stage 1 no slip and sweet as a nut.

My octy was fitted with an LUK clutch as standard.

I have put an ecs stage 1 clutch in, 330 from awesome gti. it is amazing and was quite easy to fit.

the clutch pedal is very light now

Clearly not if your saying it's slipping and it's brand new lol

Fitted a few now and never ever had issue ;-)

Something must be wrong

Jesus. U don't give up. Now ur saying I'm lying that I've not bedded my clutch in properly. I may not be mechanically minded, but, if my mechanic says be gentle and bed it in for X amount of miles, I'll do exactly that. Lol. I've since learned that The company I bought the clutch from are suspected of supplying fake LUK clutch kits. Which if true, could explain why the clutch is not working right.

LUK clutches are spot on. Fitted a genuine clutch to my old VW golf and it was an LUK in the box. Im sure most VAG group cars use LUK/Sachs?

Hi Willy, I used to work for them, wasn't for long, but got a new job before I could take advantage of the discount ecp offered.

He may be well informed and know what he is doing, but I don't like it when someone says in so many words that I haven't done something right when I know I have. I done everything possible and right to bed that clutch in. It seems that the clutch is a fake one which is possibly why it's not that great. Im in the process of sorting it out.

I always take good constructive criticism and feedback well. But not when someone says I've not done something properly when I know I have. If I hadn't done it properly then yeah, I'd say actually, I probably haven't. I'm quite a chilled out easy going guy, so forgive me If I sounded like I was annoyed. I was. Lol

How much did your dodgy clutch cost?

Joe where did you purchase the clutch from? eBay special?

Techniclutch by any chance ?

£280 for dual mass flywheel and clutch. And no. I'll find out the name later but don't wanna advertise it till I know for sure as don't want to mess around with a company's rep till I'm sure. Yes, was an ebay special :-( I will learn......

Lol chill chill

The only reasons for slipping is not bedding in or contamination hence why I said what I did

Normally contamination

Contamination?

Contamination?

Oil leaking onto the clutch from either the engine or gearbox causing damage to the friction material and thus failure.

Or removing the protective surface oil off the fly wheel that prevents it from forming surface rust.
