Citigo Alloy Confusion

Featured Replies

Hi all -

I'm currently looking at purchasing a Citigo, but I'm receiving mixed messages about the alloy wheels available...

At one point I'd almost decided on the Citigo Black Edition, but then I'm not to steer clear as the 'Auriga' alloys are 15" as opposed to the steel wheels which are only 14"...? Apparently, the bigger wheels are less 'safe' and will effect fuel economy in a negative way. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Also, does anyone out there have a Citigo Black Edition? Do you know if it comes with a spare wheel?

I think someone has telling you complete and utter rubbish,I have the 15'' wheels on my Sport and are completely fine in every respect. The spare wheel is a factory option.

Smells like...

Not sure if it applies to the Citigo wheels and handling of the car but I own an Mx-5 and they handle well on 15" rims, and most owners will go for that size. That tyre size also can sometimes work out better value to replace than say 14".

There lots of talk about wheel size, what tyres etc...if you took notice of all of it then it becomes confusing sometimes. Sticking my neck out here and say go for 15" if you want them, after all surely they have the same overall size as a 14", the 14" tyre will have deeper sidewalls than the 15". Correct me if I'm talking rubbish.

And yes do order the spare if it's a new factory order, it's more expensive to buy ex the dealer afterwards. That will most likely come as a 14" steel I think.

I have a Citigo with 15" alloys, and I drive my collegues Up with 14" steelies a lot. The economy is the same.

Who told you and in what way did they say that 15" wheels were less safe?

With regards to safety I think their point was that if the wheel itself was larger - the tyre 'depth' would be smaller/lower, so and bumps or holes you hit may have more of an impact, as the depth of the tyre would be less.

We have just replaced our Citigo elegance with 14 inch wheels for a Black Edition, which has 15 inch Auriga alloys. My wife and I have both noticed that the ride in the Black Edition is far better than our old Citigo.

As for the spare wheel, no Black Editions come with a spare wheel, in fact you can't order any factory options it comes as seen. I removed my spare wheel kit from my previous Citigo and put it in the new one and swapped the puncture goo kit to my old one. If you want a spare you can order the spare wheel kit from your dealer, it comes with a steel wheel not alloy, but then you can always order a single alloy to match the ones on your car. Hope this helps

A far better drive? In what way? Do you have at three door or four?

More comfortable ride and less road noise and its a 3 door. Love it !

Sorry, redcar_reds, can I collar you for one more question?

With the entertainment pack included within the Citigo Black Editions, do you lose the cup holder in front of the gear stick, or can the phone holder be removed?

Actually, is it phone holder or an iPod dock? (believe it or not I spoke to a dealer at the weekend - and they didn't know :(

Looks like this fitted.

Agree - I also went from a 2012 Elegance Greentech to a Black Edition. The ride is noticeably quiter and smoother by some margin. Not sure whether it's because of the higher ride height (Greentech is lower) or what but there seem to be a few subtle differences. I nearly had second thoughts in going for a similar car again but glad I did. I'm not noticing any difference between the Black Edition economy and the Greentech either. I had a spare set of 14" alloys with winter tires which I kept (use one as a spare). I've just changed on to them for the winter and can't really notice any difference between the 14's and 15's.

+1 for the winters but on steels and not put them on yet, probably end of month or beginning of November.
