Chrome or black on vrs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Looking for some opinions please? Ordering a tsi vrs in metal grey and considering the chrome pack as it might break up the grey a little in my opinion. My influence is that my black mk3 escort ghia has lots of chrome as you can imagine which I do like. These pics are from the skoda configurator. Positive replies only please ?post-121448-0-42931600-1412842072_thumb.jpgpost-121448-0-92194100-1412842592_thumb.jpg

Is it just me or are they both the same picture :p

Personally, I love it with black.  Chrome looks a little dated to me but that's just my opinion.  Love the choice of colour btw

Chrome or black, just like colour, is SO subjective. Some will like one - some will like the other.

For me, Chrome is a classic finish and will always look good.

Black is a fad, and will eventually go just as quickly as it arrived.

If the manufacturers could change the brightwork finish every few years, and we were daft enough to buy it, they would surely do it, hoping to speed up our car replacement cycle.

If ever you are not sure about the "latest look", just think about glittery platform soled boots. In the 70's, the fashionistas told us they were so cool, and that other footwear was "dated". With hindsight, we can now see they made you look like a fool.

So just go with what YOU like :D

Personally, any of the dark shades look good with chrome but I'm sure others would beg to differ!

Go with your heart, it's your drive, you pays ya money, ya takes ya choice!

Oops, my bad.

Here's the non chrome version.

We had this when ordering my dads tts. Due to the standard chrome pipes and brushed aluminium look of the mirrors etc we picked a colour that would compliment it and went for meteor grey metallic which when we picked it up, we both said 'that was the right colour!'

The vrs is the other way round, love the colour but wondering do i need to break it up a little? Tried the £750 black pack with rubbing strips, not a fan.

I ordered the Metal Grey Hatch with Black pack, I hate chrome, but - to be honest - if I had to have chrome then the Metal Grey is the only colour I think it fits with.

Bottom line is I don't think you can make a wrong decision with this. Go with your heart.

Is there any chance you can get to see some in the flesh or get some to post pictures of their cars to help you as the configerator isn't the best place to get a real life view on what either will look like.

It won't be on many occasions in my life I'm likely to be able to afford a factory order with lots of toys so been researching choices from opinions and what I need from the car and having had a high spec edn 30 golf, the vrs has a lot to live up to. So going for

Metal grey- TSI DSG hatch standard alloys

Columbus

Bluetooth plus

Folding mirrors ( my most used option on my old car to get her in the garage)

Full leather with red piping ( slightly worried on wear issues ie bolsters and 'sagging' making the car look old quickly and the red breaks up the grey a little)

Heated front and rear seats and windscreen ( couldn't be without heated seats)

Kessy( I have a 2yr old and arms full of kit usually)

Front and rear parking sensors (peace of mind if the wife drives it lol)

Canton speakers( fancy the novelty of watching DVDs in dolby surround)

Space saver ( hate the foam can option)

5 yr warranty ( failing DSG can be expensive! my golf had a new mechatronics unit at 30 months old :-0)

Light assistant

Decided against the sunroof as it's panoramic and I don't think a large slab of black glass on a grey car looks right imo. I used the one in my last car a dozen times in 4 yrs and it's a lot of money too.

Undecided on the park pilot. It's not much more to have it on top of the front/rear sensors but would I use it??

Rear camera seems a better choice to me.

My dealer reckons front and rear sensors are now standard?? My brochure says rear only and online says both extra. Confused!!

Will be keeping her for 5 yrs so want it right.

It's just a shame you can't have footwell lights on the vrs :-(

Oooohh...quick question as I was looking at the Black Design Plus Pack (the £750 one).  What's this about the rubbing strips?  I was assured by the dealer that it includes the following -

- Black Design Pack (Grill surround and Mirrors)

- 19" Xtreme Alloys (V nice)

- Colour Maxidot

- Sunset Glass from B piller

There was deffo no mention of black rubbing strips and I can't see any on the configurator once the pack has been selected.

What d'ya reckon?  Nasty black strips would deffo change my mind :|

No wrong decision here methinks. Just a choice. Both work equally well.

I ended up 'blacking' my Elegance because at the time the chrome window trim wasn't available due to a supply issue. If it had been I would have ordered the chrome roof bars too. Instead I did away with anything chrome/silver.

So to add, I think the chrome window trim and grill work well!

That's some 'exras' and well thought out IMO

Should make it a very nice place to be. The columbus would be the only thing I would not choose myself as others with experience of it question if its worth the exra over the amundsen+ but hey ho! Just out of interest what did it all add up to as I saw a dsg hatch in race blue with just the black pack in the dealers yesterday up for just over £26k.

This may or may not help.

I have the Metal Grey with the black pack but it's an estate.

There is also a Metal Grey thread somewhere in this section.

Hope that helps.

It's mentioned in the brochure but on the configuration page it doesn't offer much visual help I'm afraid.

Just over 30k retail but I won't be paying that much ;-)

Thanks. Just on the way to collect it after getting some tints added.

Yes you will be right. Great dealer to do business with.

My metal grey estate with black pack is on the pics thread and I'm delighted with it. I'm not a great fan of the skoda grill shape and I think the black pack reduces the impact of the surround. Combined with black rails and mirrors looks good IMO.

Chrome grill, windows and rails still looks good with almost any colour though.

Black all the way although if I had to have chrome it would limit my colour choice to white or silver (to disguise the nasty chrome). For this reason alone I'm put off ordering a new Scout.

Absolutely subjective of course, and yes I'm old enough to remember the 70s. Precisely where my dislike of chrome (and wood trim) was born from!

Right......going with metal grey hatch and standard fittings ie black grille. Don't fancy black mirror covers, would prefer a clear anti stone chip cover.

nice spec mr D, what does nora and betty say, im thinking of an l&k Bren, last couple of weeks had loads of niggles with the vrs, not fully resolved, in discussions with skoda uk about them, give us a ring il fill you in
