Park assist into a bay not great

Featured Replies

Parallel park with park assist is great, really impressive but reversing into bays it takes two or three attempts to get in? Seems to misjudge the first reverse, then pull forward, back again sometimes repeat again until in.

People finding the same or just mine?

that is how it works

although when i first tried it, it was almost in then it decided i needed to move forward

I thought the park assist ONLY did parallel parking? I didn't know it would park into parking bays?

Bay parking was added on the FL I think. Press the button once for parallel park, and again for bay parking. The maxidot shows what mode you're in. Quicker to bay park myself though.

Issue seems to be you have to cruise past the bays for it to recognise a space, but then the starting position for the manoeuvre is at 90 degrees to the space, so it's never going to do it in one go. When you park yourself, you naturally swing round so you're well positioned to reverse in (if that makes sense).

Still use the parallel park though, beats me at that  :)

+1 Me too! Always find it to be very accurate and always makes me smile as the steering wheel whizzs round!

How can we get Park Assist 2 on our cars? I believe we have all the sensors, could it be software?

Eddie NL has retrofitted park assist 2 onto his Octavia MK2, but I believe he needed to add more sensors as well as the controller.

I've used bay park once or twice but I find its just quicker to do it myself most of the time

To upgrade to PLA2 would require

2x Extra rear sensors with wiring

2x Rear ABS sensors

1x PLA2 module

some early cars might also need a newer instrument cluster as the cluster can't display the bay parking

Where do the extra sensors go? I'm just curious, no interest in this upgrade as the Superb combi is a very easy car to park even without sensors.

I'm guessing the extra sensors are in the wheel arches? That's where we have additional on our FL L&K.

Vehicles with the earlier park assist have a sensor in each front wheel arch. Face Lift if park assist is fitted have two more sensors one in each rear wheel arch and will hve the different picture on Columbus.

Standard fitting on FL L&K models.
