I am going to need a roof box and a set of roof bars for next year.

 

I've seen the Skoda ones at £140 a time and the ones on Mick's garage for £101.15 delivered. I've heard that the Thule ones are pretty ropey and tend not to stay on.

 

What's the best out of the first two or is there another option? I'm sure I read somewhere that Octavia ones fit but which version of the Octavia?

 

I'm going to be using these quite a lot so need something reliable that will not mark the car.

If I was only using these occasionally then I might have gone for the cheaper option but for something that I'll use a lot I'm better paying a bit more and going for the real deal. We'll have matching cars as I too have bought a white one and am planning on getting a black roof box rather than the grey.

 

Superskoda have the spaceback ones on their website but they're bound to put the ones for the hatch on there at some point. I'll be ordering some bits and bobs from them over the winter but will wait until they do one of their 20% off offers and get it all at once. i do like those chrome seat adjuster thingies

I'd borrowed the roof box from a friend with an octavia - very surprised at the difference between the roof width (rapid being wider!) and very impressed with the skoda roof bars.

One more question I have is - are the roof bars the same for spaceback and hatchback? The reason I ask is that Superskoda only lists the spaceback ones and Skodadop doesn't specify which they are. I'd guess that if they are different it would be the rear one

Skodadop have confirmed that they have both types of bars so there must be some difference. Notchback bars are part 5JA071126 and Spaceback ones are 5JJ071126 and they are now both showing on the website at €123.75

The Skoda bars are definitely different parts numbers for the Rapid and the Spaceback, they look identical however.  I have the bars for my Rapid and they are excellent - used them with a large roof box over the summer with no problems.  They're on and off in seconds!

I'm going to be ordering a big pile of bits and bobs nearer to the time when my car will be ready so I'm going to order the proper Skoda ones as I will be using them often when we start going camping in April
