Octavia 3 - Rear window issue

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have an Octavia 3 with SunSet option on it. I noticed that when looking in the mirror thru the rear window, the cars or objects behind me looks deformed (is the same feeling like when you are looking on a deformed mirror and your face looks bigger or smaller). Do you have this issue on your cars?

If it is a hatchback they all do this, it is the curve on the glass acting like a lens.

Yes, it is hatch. I had 3 hatch's before: Peugeot 206, Peugeot 307 and Golf 6...none of them with this problem. Is it only on Octavia? Yours is doing the same?

Yes - about halfway down the screen you can see it distort

My hatch also does this, no sunset fitted, I just live with it, didn't consider it a fault, more like one of the laws of physics!

Mine is also halfway down. It is really visible on the highway. In the city I can live with it. I think that the quality of the window is really bad...looks like cost savings.

It's just the angle and shape of the glass causing the light to bend more and look distorted.

As the glass is curved, the amount of light bend from your viewpoint (i.e. the mirror which is set high up so maximises the effect) will vary so the top half will appear quite different to the bottom half.  The other cars you mention have more upright rear screens so the effect is less noticeable.

You wanna try driving my Alfa - the rear screen is about 20 degrees from horizontal so the mirror is virtually pointless.

I remember a big development for American cars in the '40s or '50s was windscreens that wouldn't distort, allowing all sorts if crazy curves. It's not like they couldn't avoid this. Just another reason to buy the estate :)

I already bought the car...and I really like the hatch. I am sure that the window shouldn't be like that...so next week I am going back to the dealer to replace it.

Another aspect that I really hate is the window chrome trim. It started to wash out and become white...the crome is gone. I reported this aspect to my local dealer and he told me that is not covered by the warranty because is my fault, pointing out the active foam I use to wash the car. I told him that I used the same foam on many cars with chrome trims before and none of them behaved like that. He didn't want to understand...so I will report him to the customer protection department.

Bottom line...I do not reccomend chrome window trims on Skoda...now I regret that I payed extra money for this option.
