PCN ticket

Featured Replies

Just after clearing a few things up as there is a bit of mixed info about on the internet.

This evening I recieved a PCN for parking in a taxi rank, unbeknown to me as during the day time it's a pay and display parking and IMO doesn't clearly show this is the case.

Anyway, I arrived back at the car just as he was printing the ticket out, now I didn't drive off and neither was the ticket handed to myself instead it was handed to one of my passengers.

Now where do I stand in this instance as I thought the ticket had to be attached to the car (and photographed?) Or handed over to the driver. I know if you drive off the ticket will be posted instead.

Just claim the ticket was never given to you!

And if it's not clearly sign posted I would contest it. Take lots of photos.

No, the ticket merely needs to be served, wether that be attached to the car or handed to you or your passenger. There is no requirement to take a picture of the car with the ticket. The machine will have the date/time of the ticket stored along with the photograph of the car and this is sufficient evidence.

You can of course appeal, but you must be absolutely sure there are no signs. Parking in a Taxi Rank without being a Taxi is also a parking offence of course.

You've done wrong, be an adult and just pay the ticket instead of trying to get out of it.

I agree, some people put so much time & effort in trying to evade a legitimate parking ticket that I would think it doesn't make any financial sense.

I have heard people spending hours, if not days fighting charges that appear legitimate. Put the same amount of time into something more productive, maybe a few hours overtime at work & you'll be quids in :)

You'd be amazed how many invalid signs and traffic orders are policed in Westminster. 90% odd are successfully appealed including one from me.

I get the reasons for appealing, & when they are not issued correctly it is fully justified :)

However there is a new phenomenon where people are appealing even when they know full well that they are in the wrong. They then work backwards to try and find a loophole to exploit. Doesn't fit well with me.

So you were parked without displaying a valid ticket or parked on a taxi rank without being a taxi; ether of these is an offence. You've no get out.

Unless the traffic order for the bay is invalid ;)
