Emissions Workshop, CEL light, exhaust gases are smelly and irritates eyes...

Featured Replies

Hi Guys...

Well the subject itself tells a lot about the issues I have been facing with my octi lnk 2005 from past 3 months...

It starts from the day I thought to get the MAF sensor cleaned... the guy sprayed something to clean it and after about 20kms drive car struggled to touch even 80kmph.

Went back to the garage and they suggested to change the timing belt and I got it done. the car started to touch 120kmph which was still less as compared to its earlier top speed that use to be 170kmph...

One day emissions error popped up with the CEL light... scanner gave 'EGR Excessive flow', MAF sensor passed the test...

Checked all the vaccum pipes... no leakage...

Got the turbo cleaned which did improve the acceleration past 2500RPM... but otherwise the acceleration is very low... upon pressing the acceleration peddle engine has started to make more noise whereas the pickup isn't as fast it use to be... emissions Workshop is still there...

Also, the exhaustion gases are really irritating... It might sound bit strange but standing at the back of the car results in eyes and nose irritation that too instantly... I thought its only me but yesterday I got same feedback from a friend... just guessing can lambda sensor going bad be a reson for this

It seems to be really difficult to diagnose these issues... looking forward to advise guys...

Thanks...

You cannot rely on fault codes to diagnose MAF failure. Try unplugging the MAF, & if it runs better your MAF is goosed.

when my octi was struggling to go past 80kmph... it tried that too... it made a slight difference though... but can MAF result to Excessive EGR flow?

Yes it can. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=336222

MAF problem can cause incorrect fueling which could lead to unburnt fuel exiting through the exhaust. If your exhaust smells of bad eggs your catalytic converter is goosed.
