Car wouldnt start this morning and its losing coolant !!!

 

Sounds all to similar to last years issue that ended up costing me £4k. I am hopig it is just paranoia though !!

 

Considering taking it off the road and getting a cheap runabout until I decide what to do.

 

The two issues may not necessarily be related, give us more information please.

 

Is the cooling system remaining pressurised even when cold?

 

Does the engine crank normally and just doesn't fire or is it sluggish?

The cooling system does seem to be pressurised.

 

It does crank but didnt start straight away then battery wouldnt crank it again and just clicks.

 

I had booked the car in anyway for Wednesday as wasnt starting first time and losing a little coolant.

 

Drove it yesterday and drives well when started.

 

Will try to charge battery tonight and crank it again.

The cooling system does seem to be pressurised.

try bump starting it might be a sticky starter motor or hit it with a hammer......

Right tried any quick tests on the coolant yet? That should show if it's just a leak or if something causing it to get into the engine

when the HG went on my Fabia just leaving it to tick over for a short duration caused the coolant tank to become heavily pressurised forcing the water down to the bottom of the tank, have you seen any signs of this?

If the cooling system is pressurised even when the engine is cold then that's not a good sign, a coolant leak would mean the system wouldn't hold pressure.

 

The battery sounds to be in a marginal state, have you checked it's charging properly?

Will see what the garage have to say on Wednesday and take it from there - Although I welcome all the advice I am no mechanic.

 

If its serious I am probably going to take it off the road for a while until I decide what to do.

Are you taking it back to the same garage?

Are they a known VAG specialist tuner?

 

Just asking as I'd be concerned with a garage that don't know what they are looking at, or will try not to admit that previous work caused the issue.

Because that is no where near a stock car.

Last time I thought you just took it into a local place.

I'd take it to a well know modified car specialist or tuner to be safe as a lot of local corner garages won't know much about it

To be fair that was where I was going to take it back to as they fitted the engine last time.

 

I am going to suggest if they need to take it apart then I will leave it and take it to a VAG tuner this time - don't want to be ripped off again.

 

That is the problem when you know nothing about cars and have a highly tuined vehicle!!

Starter motor wiring / earth?  Had this on mine and it was a snapped wire to the starter.

 

Hoping nothing more serious.

Hope it's nothing too serious mate, and you get it sorted.

Phew panic over and all is good again 

 

Turns out the coolant leak was from a pipe - just needed tightening and the battery had a failed cell and has been replaced under warranty (3 yr battery)

 

Was just me getting paranoid
