Just changed the 1.9Tdi Fabia for a 1.9Tdi Octavia 2004 Mk 1 version. I assume the get up and go of the Fabia will be less but at least I will be able to get the golf clubs in easier.

Welcome to Briskoda. :D

Which version of the TDI did you get? 90 , 110 or 130 bhp?

Only the 90 would feel any slower than a 100bhp furby

hi and welcome :wavey:

Got the 110.

On a different tack, I have read a lot of the threads about changing the radio, but none seem to say how the head unit is actually removed. Do i need the 2 bits of bent wire or some other tool? My unit is the Symphony.

I used the nail file off a tiny swiss army knife to release the catches on the stereo , then pushed it out from behind which is nice and easy to do with the glove box removed.

It's worth doing this as when you come to put the new stereo in you'll probably need to reach behind to stop the wires catching.

A couple of other things that you'll find handy. 1) the permanent and switched 12v wires are the opposite way round to the ISO standard so you'll need to swap them over. 2) you will need an adaptor to supply 12v to the aerial or you won't get any AM stations and poor FM reception. 3) you'll probably want to swap the speakers soon after as they are dire :D
