Strange place to have a bulb!

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone can help?.On starting my car this morning (octavia elegance 1.4tsi)there was an audible signal (beeping) but nothing showing on the instrument cluster as to what it might be,then I noticed a very small bulb sticking out of the dashboard right in the corner by the front window column where the windscreen and door meet it was blinking red and in time to the beeping.has anyone any idea what it's for and why its placed in such a weird place.all you can see is the very small diode type bulb similar to the type that are usually in the top of the door indicating the alarm/locki modes etc.

That sounds like something aftermarket, so not sure.

As above, I'm guessing that you didn't buy the car from new.

The previous owner has retrofitted some aftermarket equipment.

Hi,thanks for your replies guys, only bought the car 3 months ago and did wonder if it was some retrofit but it's a bit worrying not knowing what it might be, is it safe to drive etc?

Long shot

arn't some cars alarmed by the dealers when they sit in the showroom. I know Benfield in Harrogate do it. They are connected to the battery and I think are a motion sensor. Perhaps it one of those

Just a thought

Just popped into garage and they said its a retrofit of some sort of module but without stripping it down they wouldn't know what it was but on further investigation I found a switch underneath that activates it must have caught it with my foot when getting in would be nice to know what it is as it might be something useful the switch has a prong by the side of it maybe to plug something into

Have taken photo if anybody can guess what it might be post-119210-0-23566200-1413388275_thumb.jpg

Can't see the prong and the switch very clearly as your camera has focused on the OBD plug, any more details you could shed light on?

If the dealer can't shed any light on it then perhaps you could write to the previous owner and ask them?

Take it back to where you bought it, ask them to remove whatever it is and return car to standard.

Guessing the bit on the left is a socket for something to be plugged into, like a camera.

Looks like a toggle switch and a push button that could have been bodged together to do who knows what.

PASSENGER SIDE EJECTOR SEAT!!!!

You're welcome... :thumbup::D

Or maybe it belonged to a clown and upon activation the doors and wings etc all fall off.

If its a push switch on the left, it could possibly be DIY cruise control, as I know someone who had an almost identical setup in an Octavia. The toggle could switch it on and off and push button to set.

Or it's a bodged ignition circuit. Toggle engine on and off and hold push button to crank?

Either way, get the trader to sort it out.

The car already has cruise control so I doubt it's that (Huskoda) Being as the switch shuts off the buzzing and blinking then I think I'll leave things as they are,who knows maybe one day I'll find out what it's for.in the mean time if anyone else has any suggestions feel free, thanks

Does it replace the " On " button that was present in the cubby hole on the MK One Fabia

"On" button for what?Auric. What I can't understand is why it has an audible signal when switched on its a constant bleeping and would soon get on your nerves while driving

It's not an after market immobiliser it ? Does the car start with the switch in the other position ?
