Hi

 

I currently have a 2010 Octavia L&K 1.8Tsi with a set of steel rims for winter, they are 15".  I have just ordered a VRS (well its been pre ordered by the dealer, so I should have it within 3 weeks).  Looking at the VRS, I am pretty sure that there is no way my existing steels will fit, can someone confirm for me please?

The smallest size wheel to fit the MKIII Vrs is 17" due to the large brake discs on the front.

They need to be 17" or bigger rims, which means getting a set of alloys.

Caddy has 15 or 16 inch, I can check when I get to work. T5 has a different pcd, so no good. I don't think the T4 has 17" steels at all.

Just bought 4 new Pictoris for my vRS from Eskoda-shop.cz. Cost £580 inc delivery to Fife. That is less than half price.

My Czech non existent, but all done via Internet and email.

Hallyboy, thanks for the head up on that source for wheels.  I had been looking in the UK and couldn't find anything with a reasonable price.

 

Have yours turned up?  Everything okay with them?

I'd buy some second hand alloys off ebay/gumtree, get some cheap winter tyres from these guys in germany http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/ (only take a couple of days to arrive) then get your local 'alloy wheel specialist' to stick them together

I did this a few years ago - some 16" Audi alloys only cost £40 off ebay (ok 17s will be a bit more expensive) and I think the winter tyres were less than £50 a pop

I know the old stud pattern will still fit the latest Octavia as the wife nicked em last year and stuck them on her Mk7 Golf

You could also ask your dealer whether he'd let you have some 17" alloys at cost price. Got a "free" set myself when I bought my vRS, but that was a demo car so they were keen to make a sale. Always worth asking though, as they can only say No.

I asked at the dealer and there are no standard steels to fit over the calipers. New alloys are minimum of eighteen and about three hundred quid! I've got winter tyres and a mate at ats who swaps em for me. Loads of places offer the service if you buy the tyres from them.

Everything was fine, took about 10 days from placing the order to receiving the alloys. Paid credit card no problems there either. Had to place 2 orders for 2 wheels each as the DHL carriage max was 30 kg and alloys are 12.9 each.

Other than that no worries, and less than 50% cost in UK.

Wheels are on the car now with my winters fitted

I think she suits the VRS just fine.

Yes, you will need 17" alloys and this is the not only the recommend tyre size but also the cheaper of the two that fit.

If you don't have a VRS then 16" or even 15" steelies shold fit and will cost quite a bit less.

blimey that eskoda shop is keenly priced, half uk dealer prices and seems to be a very extensive range of vag group rims.  I've just had a browse.

Make sure you use a good sealant on the MAM alloys. The paint / lacquer on my set of 16" MAM rims (similar design to yours) is looking pretty shabby around the centre cap and between the joins of the spoke and the rim - only 2 seasons use albeit one very harsh winter and several trips to the Alps where they would be encrusted with 5mm of salt after 700km of driving - car washed weekly or more too. Also not too sure what the rims were protected with during manufacture but they are forever losing balance weights as they just don't seem to stay adhered to the surface.
