Citigo Tail lights on with DRLs coding found (hopefully)

Featured Replies

Been doing some searching for the coding adaption for having the tail lights on with DRLs on my Citigo. I emailed vagtechniek in the Netherlands after reading a topic on http://www.vwupforum.nl/ and received a reply saying to use the long code helper in vcds and to set byte 12, bit 0 to 1. Now I have never used VCDS and would like some help from someone here who knows what they are doing. How does the long code helper work?

Would I be able to do this coding with VCDS lite or do I need the full version?

I have yet to be able to enable rear DRL’s on any 2009 onwards cars, so far it has always been dealer only.

I expect byte 12 bit 0 will have no description, so make sure whatever you change you are 110% sure it is correct, not ALL VCDS changes can be undone!

It's the tail lights I want to enable with the DRLs.

Would VCDS lite be able to do the coding?

Also the byte 12 bit 0 they refer to, I assume that is in the ST09 group?

They have also said that if I send them my original long coding string they will let me know what the updated string should be.  What do I need to read the long code string?

Just realised i missed the word rear out above (edited it now)

Yes it is 09

Not sure about VCDS light though

Would a dealer be able to read the long code string with their software?

Yes, the dealer can also activate them.

Not every byte has a description, so some things will even be activated and there is no description on what that function does.

For example bits 6 & &

Sometimes (like bit 0 below) there is not even a tick box so the binary coding has to be changed manualy:

That's good as my dealer has said he will do it for me if I can find out the coding for it.

In the examples above which is byte 12?  Are they in line 3) and counting along from left to right with the first being byte 0?

Do you have an example showing the long coding from a Citigo?

Really appreciate your help by the way.

In this long code example have I correctly marked byte 12 and bit 0?

My car is booked in after next week for its first service and will ask them to do the coding for me then.

Yes that is correct.

The above screenshots were taken from our TT to show an example of the missing descriptions.

I do not have a screenshot of any of the Citygo's I have coded sorry.

Thanks for all your help. I'll report back after I've been to the dealer.

Well I'm very eager to know the result because I've been wanting this done for the best part of a year but gave up on the idea after I couldn't find any information about it on the net. So how did you get on? :-)

Car is going in on Friday so will report back after.

Now have rear lights on with DRL's. Dealer used the above coding to enable them.

He also enable my cornering fog lights too.

My Central Electrics Byte 12 now reads 01101101 before it was 00101100.

Hope this is helpful to others.

If anyone is thinking of using the coding above to enable the rear lights, please note it actually turns on the front sidelights, dash illumination, number plate light and tail lights too. Just wanted to make that clear.
