Top mounts - when are they due for replacement?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My Mk1 vrs is on 140k miles and I've slowly been replacing bushes and mounts etc. I haven't yet replaced the top suspension mounts. Is there a prescribed period when these are recommended for replacement? There doesn't seem to by many threads on it - most people only replacing then if they uprate the front suspension to coilovers etc. I'm not looking to uprate the front suspension. Would I simply be wasting my time if I did this job unnecessarily? I do however get a short sharp creaking sound when I drive over speed humps.

Thanks

There's no need to replace them unless they're damaged, it won't make any difference.

The creaking sound might be your FARB bushes, chuck a new set on, they're very cheap and the job is easy, don't bother with upgrading, they don't do anything except locate the FARB.
