egr delete results ?

Featured Replies

Rite guys ive recently fitted the group buy egr delete an removed the cooler tank thing and blanked off at the manifold. I dont no if its a placebo effect but i seriously think my car has gained power it seems to pick up alot faster and also has made the exhaust sound much deeper an throatier. Just wondering if anybody else has discovered this?? Mines a fabia vrs blt engine.

Its held on by 3 5mm allen bolts very awkward to get to the one in the middle but some how i managed todo it with a ring spanner on the end of the allen key as leverage to help loosen them as thers very lil space for hands. Then once u can see wer the coolant hoses are u can basically reroute them buy removing the short one an putting the long one on its place an then all u need todo is fit the blanking plate then the rest is simply puttin it back together :)

An EGR valve doesn't make an engine lose any power so there's nothing to be gained, however if you've thoroughly cleaned the manifold up then you will have restored some power by doing that.

The only way you can gain power is by remapping it, anything else is simply placebo or restoring already lost standard power.

Let me give you an amusing example, years ago when people started mucking about with Integra Type R's, one of the first things they'd do was to chuck away the standard 'restrictive' airbox and filter and fit absurdly colourful and expensive induction kits from companies like HKS, they'd then spurt all over the forums about how 'pickup' had improved and how much faster the car was.

The horrible reality was they had LOST power, quite a lot of power, but the intake was much noisier with that pukka 'race car' roar and crackle.

Nowadays everyone falls about the place laughing when people say and do such stupid things in the ricer community, it's noob 101 stuff.

To summarise, an EGR valve in the context of a turbodiesel is a method of allowing inert exhaust gas to help fill the cylinder when the car wants to run lean, typically during light throttle applications, this helps increase MPG by reducing pumping losses and allowing the ECU to inject less fuel without raising EGT, this reduces NOx emissions and prolongs the life of the VNT since VNT's don't like high EGT.

All of these things are good things, the only BAD thing about the EGR on a PD is that oily residues in the inlet manifold from the engine breather get coated with soot, creating a vile black sludge like bitumen which DOES indeed reduce performance.
