collected new 1.4TSi SE hatch.

Featured Replies

Just collected the new car and so far very pleased with it, though still investigating a lot of the electronic toys.

I've turned off the automatic stop-start for the moment but it seems to come on again when you restart the car.

Any easy way of keeping it off for now?

Not a single annoying rattle SO FAR !

Lots of little improvements over the Mk. 2 ,e.g. no visible radio aerial, nice feel to steering wheel, smooth gear change. But basically I think they are all very good cars

Glad you like your new motor!

Stop Start resets itself every time you stop the car, don't know if it can be disabled through VCDS

Leave the stop-start active, you get used to it after a while. I thought the same when I got mine. Now, I use the on/off switch to disable it when needing a quick entry into traffic from side roads, on to roundabouts, etc, when the (very) slight delay could make a difference! Doesn't matter at traffic lights, still able to beat most other drivers.

If you have DSG you can press lightly on the brake if you do not want stop-start. Just enough pressure to hold the car, but not more.

No, it's a manual. I'll turn it off each time for now, till I get used to the rest of the car's "feel", then will start using it.

If it's a manual then there is no need to turn it off for normal driving. You just keep the clutch pressed when stopped and it won't stop the engine.

I like it, it works well. Any waiting over ~20 seconds is supposed to be a gain.

What we need now are timers on traffic lights showing how long before they go green so you know if it's worth stopping the engine or not!

+1 a 100m range SMS which the car could detect and manage the stop/start automatically woul be a great help.

Oh no, thats all getting a bit too big brothery, tech'll drive you crazy in cars, like the first fag I cut in half with the auto rain closing windows :swear:  :swear: !

While we are on the subject of stop-start has anyone else noticed that you have to give the throttle a little bit more power after stop-start? I have managed to stall my 1.4 TSI several times because there appears to be a slight hesitancy after stop-start when "normal" throttle pressure is applied.
