1.4TSI - DSG trembles

Featured Replies

Good Day ALL,

i wanted to ask the owners of the MK3 1.4TSI & DSG , does your car have strange trembles in the morning when you start it after being parked all night?

what i had excatly is that my car the same every day after being parked for long time & i start it it trembles a little after a while & then when i starts moving it have 1 or 2 trembles which are stronger & then goes very smoothly after that ,

also i can overcome the trembles that happens when moving if i pressed the accelerator to 2000RPM for once or twice before i start moving

after that when i stop at any traffic light or something and the gear at N , after a little while it starts having those trembles again but they are very very faint.

any one have these behavior or know what could it be or is it related to the TURBO , as i never drove a turbo charged car before.

thank in advance for any help :)

I have a 1.4TSi with DSG and have not had what you describe as trembles. It is very smooth even when not used for a while. How old is your car & how many miles has it done? If it is that noticeable I would suggest your dealer has a look at it.

My previous car was also a 1.4TSi with DSG & for the 3 years I owned it there were no problems with the DSG.

Dealers straight away, gotta ask the question about engine tune settings having read one of your previous posts about using 92 Ron fuel, even with additives that **** ain't good.

My 1.4 DSG runs like a dream and is smooth as silk well, till I abuse it away.

Regards

T

Octy 3 can run with RON as low as 91 as long as it has been mapped for local fuel conditions at the factory.

No trembles whatsoever here.

the engine is very very smooth when moving,

the trembling is only when idle & in the first few seconds of moving that's all,

also this trembling is since the car was new , & my car now have around 22000Kms on the clock.

My 103Tsi manual has developed a similar problem when starting from cold.

Starts perfectly ok and tick over is fine but when I pull away in first gear I have to drive slowly for about 50 metres to the public road.

During that phase I am trying to maintain about 1500 rpm but progress is jerky and light throttle response uncertain, the severity seems related to the temperature (cooler = worse).

I usually run 95 Octane but the last few tanks were 98 octane and no real improvement (morning temperature are increasing here as Australia enters late Spring).

Once on the public road and I've accelerated through a couple of gears it is improves and does not re-occur for the rest of the day even if left for a long period.

Light throttle control and response is perfectly normal when the engine is at normal operating temperatures.

Left it with the dealer overnight who test drove it in the morning but they said it was ok. I think the back road they pulled out into was very bumpy and downhill so probably disguised the symptoms.

Of course by then it has warmed up so I would have had to have left it for another night which I was unable to do.

The dealers had insisted I took it in when I phoned them because they thought I had a DSG gearbox. Not sure if that means there is a known problem with DSG boxes on cold starts or they are just nervous of any complaints about DSG boxes following the very bad publicity with failures of 7 speed box here in Australia and the way they handled (ignored) it.

Anyway the workshop foreman thought it might be associated with the lamda control (recirculated exhaust to speed warm up).

It has been suggested on an Aussie forum that I get an OBD2 scanner and see if I can monitor the lamda sensors during the early phase, which I will probably follow up.

I am disappointed the dealers did not do this when they had the car.

In the meantime it is a small problem that I can live with, and wait until next winter to see if it worsens.

The car has only done 4000km (2500 miles).

I also can live with what i have no problem frankly , but am afraid that this will lead to a bigger problem after a while or after few years.
