Oil change by skoda correct (vrs)

Featured Replies

Just had a service by skoda the oil on there data sheet is saying 10w/40 is this correct? Also there stating it's 4.3 litres?

Well 5w 40 means they used the cheap stuff, for fixed servicing,  5w 30 would be the Long Life.

the Oil quantity is 3.6 litres,

so you need to dip the Oil Cold & see where it is.

Because too many have put in 3.9 & 4.3 litres, because,

WE SEE THESE EVERY DAY AND KNOW OUR JOB.

Then they say, "THEY ALL USE OIL."

If it has too much oil in, do not drive it,

have them collect it and deliver a courtesy car.

I told you so mate ;) haha. Knew George would know! Haha

It's 10w/40?, problem is I've driven 40 miles back from work and need to be at work before they open, and the 18 year old tech has the cheeky so call other peoples work on the car ****, so even for a normal service they've put the wrong oil I'm it? If so they can change it tomorrow

Haha yeah super fast! But that's brilliant

George the oil God!

In all seriousness though. Id be ringing the dealer/suk after you check its oil level in morning or tonight. I wouldnt drive it any more than you have. Just in case.

Yeah its deffo 5w/30 or 40. Not 10 anything. That oil needs dropping. Even if they say it must be a clerical error on the sheet. Dont believe them.

Real pain as I start work at 8 and they open at 8 and it's 40 miles from me to Banbury might get the train and get them to collect the car from home if it's wrong, really not happy after interim service and mot, plug inspection, exhaust fix was £300

What kind of exhaust fix??? And yeah. Get the train. Speak to your dealer or even just go over their heads and ring skodaUK. You want a courtesy car dropping off and the car picking up. On a lorry. Not being driven back to tje dealership to check the damage.

If you can see the oil on the dipstick OK.

Dip it.

If the Engine is stone cold and the Oil Cold.

4.3 litres will have the oil above the top orange marker.

If it is do not run it,

If not sure & it looks lower.

You can run it, get the Oil up to Temp with gentle driving around,

Then Stop and dip it Hot,

3.9 Litres has it just under the Top Orange Marker. 4.3 litres on the Orange Marker.

George the oil God!

I mentioned to Chappers on Facebook that he should post on here and George will know the answer.

Exactly 1 minute later George had replied and answered the question.

Brilliant, isnt it? Haha :)

And keep your train tickets etc for compo. Dont know if theyll pay it but you could try.

Would it be alright to drive the 40 miles back to Banbury if below the orange marker?

I missed the 10 w 40  and thought 5w 40.

Sorry,

So wrong Oil & Quantity unless the service desk did the Invoice wrong.

So if this is what is in,

they need to collect the car and change the oil.

On a Transporter.

Tell the Dealer Principal they are not just removing some oil and driving it.

i hope the 30 miles the tech did test driving and the 40 miles for me home hasnt hurt it :(

  • Author

There's no dealer principle, it's only a vw and skoda service center and I'm now starting to wonder why 30 miles test drive was done but I've reset the trip now as they left it with no fuel

if there was 4.3 litres in, you might be claiming a new Cat off them.

What was the 30 mile test drive for,

the Misfire?

The oil is up to temp after around 10 miles.

are the Spark Plugs checked.?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I wish people with Twinchargers would check the Oil level when collecting cars.

Too many spoiled engines came from Overfilled OIl.

Lots have had 4.3 litres put in at a service.

EDIT.

Sorry for missing posts . on a phone and bad Reception - connection, bad weather.

Could I PM you the whole story?

There will be a Manager or Area Manager,

speak with their Head Office,

you need to have it dealt with not by the Technicians - Fitters if there are issues.

Their Insurance will be paying.

I had this once with Kwik Fit and they tried to cover it up,

until i forwarded Emails to the Media Department and Directors at Ford.

EDIT.

I can not read PM's on the phone sorry.

I will have a Laptop tomorrow.

plugs came back good, "the tips are burning white and not damp, oil down the threads"

rough running came back as the silencer removal and replaced with stright pipe the tech said i had removed the cat when its not, said the rough running was because the back pressure wasnt correct, as they thought the cat had been removed they did the emissions and said that it passed by the skin of its teeth. fixed leak the emissions came back as alot better so did the idle

car may hunt because of back pressure being differnt

thats the techs comments in basic term

If you do have fb ive posted the comments on the forum

checked the oil it does seem to be below the orange mark its hard to tell because of the dark outside, does have some oil on but doesnt drip on your finger when touched unlike the marked area so i think its below

Hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction quickly, seems like some basic errors been made by the service centre who really ought to know better.

It is almost beyond belief that a VW- Skoda Service Centre appears to have so little technical knowledge, especially if they have been working on these cars for a long time. After all, the basic owners handbook specifies the oil type, and quantity. 5w/30 Long life low ash oil, available from TPS for £24 for a 5 litre can. Oil capacity 3.6l including filter. Having had the misfortune to have to enter and go through the engine change process I can even tell the weight of the oil required, with thanks to George. So, if I know, and the majority of people on here know, how on earth can Skoda dealers and service agents continually get this wrong and endanger what is already a fragile base engine?

With a bit of luck you are able to get a cold dip done in good light around 7am tomorrow morning and are better able to tell where the oil actually is on the stick, because based on the invoice you are correct to be concerned about overfilling. Also correct to worry about wrong oil.

And I would think within your rights to ask they come and take the car in on a truck, drain and replace the oil to the correct level with the correct oil, at no cost to you. They should also be checking to make sure their ineptitude hasn't caused greater damage.

I've just been told that 10/40w is correct for my car on the qs2 service? He said it's correct for 10k changes

Well he is wrong.

It should be VW 502 00 Full Synthetic 5w 40  for Fixed Services,  9,400 miles (10,000) or 372 days.

But Long Life VW 504 00 5w 30 Full Synthetic is nice for Fixed Services and required for Variable Servicing.

?

& what is being said about the 4.3 Litres,

Is it just that they only put in the correct amount by checking, and it has in 3.6 litres.

Or more likely,

they are looking at the wrong vRS on their Chart.

& not the 1.4 TSI 132 kw CAVE 2009-2012.    2012-2014 CTHE.
