Multifunction Steering Wheel died

Featured Replies

Whilst travelling home a couple of days ago I discovered that none of the controls on the steering wheel would work also the horn wouldn't work either. I immediately thought that a fuse might have blown. However I got the car home and after leaving the car for an hour or so went out to check the fuses but found everything was working again. Has anyone else had this happen or can anyone suggest what caused this?

Many Thanks

Funny things happens in cars. Yesterday the radio would not turn off in my dads brand new Nissan Qashqai. I we pressed "OFF" the display turned off (clock mode), but the radio kept playing. Even when we stopped the car, and pulled the key, the radio kept playing! After ten minutes without the key in, the radio shut off, and now everything is back to normal.

Weird, is it not? The main thing is, that it works now - it´s really hard to take the car back to the dealer, when the fault has cured itself :)

The steering wheel has it's own internal computer I think  so maybe it just crashed??  It'll show up in the fault codes if you scan it /get it scanned . It probably won't tell you why though .....

My God - you're lucky anything WORKS in a Qashkai!

I had this in my Vrs a few years ago. Inly happened in the cold sows hard to track down. Only noticed as the steering wheel paddles wouldn't change gear. Turned out to be a steering control module. There is a thread in the MK2 Octavia section. I'll see if I can locate it.

Yes - after all, it´s made in UK - and has a french engine :D

designed over 10 years ago and was uttely awful then, plus Renault electrics, gearbox, suspension.....

No wonder it was the best selling vehicle in Ireland in 2013... I'm pretty sure most Irish people hate cars even though they spend more time in them than most of the rest of the world - this may be the only country where you can buy a 518D BMW and where the 1.6 diesel Audi A6 is the best selling model...

Very true alright, although the A6 base engine is a little bigger but I get your point!  That's what happens when you mix the Irish car tax system with plenty of badge snobbery!  I think a lot of people in this country are also lured into low road tax rates and disregard other aspects of the car.

Anyway back on topic for the OP, if you still have some warranty left I'd get it checked out with the dealer.  Even if it cures itself you will have it logged with them.  I have some minor issues before with MF steering wheels and although the problems seem to sort themselves they tend to reappear
