Rapidly losing faith with my car

Featured Replies

Not in a great mood this morning. I've had my Rapid for a month now, and the problems keep mounting:

Drivers side seat cover coming apart - car has been back to dealer twice for failed bodge fixes, still waiting for dealer to source a promised replacement seat base cover.

Rear window heater element completely dead - going back to dealer again for investigation next week - no visible issues with actual element on window

And now, last night when I got back to the car (been in Gatwick long stay parking for 2 weeks), both rear doors were so full of water that each one required half an hour to drain after I popped the rubbers off the door bottoms to provide an escape route for the water.

Drove home from Gatwick cold and damp, and with no rear window visibility due to non-functioning rear window element. Electrics in rear doors are now also fried, thanks to the water logging.

Starting to think I've bought a bigger lemon than the Citroen I had before.

Chris

I think I would be pushing for an exchange or a refund by now.

Yeh, with today's high standards of reliability in cars that's unacceptable!

I would be asking for a replacement since now that the doors have been filled with water, it is reasonable that a long list of failures could be expected over time as electronic joints etc corrode. Door locking, mirror adjustment etc.

Surely he OP has grounds to reject the car with those problems after such a short space of time.

Well, car is booked in again at the dealer for Thursday next week (I'm out of the country again this week) to deal with the doors, electrics and heated rear window. Still no sign of the replacement seat base however.

Deeply frustrating and to be honest, a bit upsetting.

Certainly after next week's visit there will be solid grounds to do this, as ample opportunity to correct the issues will have been provided by that stage.

Good news - if it were me I would be dropping some very big hints over rejection when the car goes in on Thursday. Why wait? Put the ball firmly back in the hands of the dealer and make them sweat!

I would also give Skoda UK the heads up too - contact their customer service department and get them involved, although they can't really tell the dealer what to do they can gently advise them.

That's terrible. They should have done the rear door seal mod at its PDI.

If you google "rejecting a car" you can get some good template letters and guidance.

However it is not a new car, so surely lets Skoda UK off the hook no?

I'm a bit disappointed to hear that they haven't found a permanent fix for the rear-doors-filling-with-water problem.

Rear window heater and seat base sound like bad luck as I've not heard anyone else having these problems.

It will be within the manufactures warranty and therefore do get in touch with skoda uk. They may not be responsible but they are still very helpful and good to have on your side.

Ours has pre mod door seals and unmodified too (they cover the drain holes), despite our from stock car being registered late in July. Keeping an eye on things but not noticed any water filling as yet with the doors.

Mine has got by the looks of it modified seals on the rear and haven't experienced any water build up yet [emoji106]

Or they could have done them at PDI. I did ask about the seals and they said they're done [emoji4]

What exactly is the correct official mod to rectify the water retention issue? Is it simply a new, redesigned rubber seal at the base of the door, or do they replace the window rubbers as well?

Thanks

Chris

Just the door seals every car lets water in the door through the window rubber

According to the parts book there have been a number of part number changes to just about every door or glass rubber seal, some two or three times over.

The bottom outer door seal which is the one 'blocking' the drain holes to the door cavity was last updated from WK21/14 in the later half of May.

Unbelievable - got a call this morning from what I am now convinced is a completely incompetent dealership. Despite having confirmed my booking for Thursday (they even sent me a text confirming date and time), they now seem to think the car is coming in tomorrow instead. They also have no record of the fault with the heated rear window or the rear doors filling with water, and no record that I need a courtesy car - all stuff that had been discussed with them three times.

This is utterly rediculous. If anyone wants to know who this dealerships is, so you can avoid them, feel free to PM me.

Leave feedback in their thread on the Dealer Review section here.

There's no way I'd use that dealer if they're like that.

Just name and shame.

Tell Skoda UK you are using a different dealer.

Skoda UK are OK and will help, talk to Steph.

A little update - got the car back this morning.

Seat base has been replaced (though not fitted particularly well - I can see that having to go back for another go as both the fabric and the plastic trim next to the height adjust are badly refitted.

Heated rear window has allegedly been fixed - not had an opportunity to test it yet

Seals on rear doors have been modified (a strip cut off) to prevent water being retained in the door. Again, will see how we get on this week with the bad weather.

Skoda UK have been no help whatsoever, with promises of calls and intervention in the matter not happening. Very disappointing all round.
