Build quality

My rapid sport has just rolled over 10000 miles and can honesty say I've been surprised by the build quality of my car how bad it is. Issues include bad vibrations from the radio, dash and front driver side door. Cloth on both front seats coming off. Paint on the rear bumper cracking and chipping off. Bad creaking from steering. Loose fog light and knocking noise from front which turned out to be the fog light moving about. Skoda have fixed all issues so far and have been really great however I can't help but feel the issues should never have been there in the first place.

Sorry to hear this [emoji17]

Mines only on 1200 miles so far and all is quiet and tight but I'll bear all those in mind.

Glad it's been sorted out for you [emoji106]

Arthur must have put yours together !

There is an intermittent annoying noise, kind of creaky squeeky fro mky delivers window or the speaker and I have noticed the odd ns noise from the rear. Not consistent enough to make me take it back but I've been close. I got the car new in July

Oh, And my mpg is nowhere near what I expected

Should have done your homework [emoji51]

Or got a peddle bike [emoji57]

I can now also add water in the rear passenger footwell :( I was wondering what the slushing noise was today!

Could be to do with the rear doors?

I got my Rapid Sport at the end of June and have been delighted with the build quality so far.   In fact, apart from the cash spent on research and development and electronics that are a bit more advanced and slicker, I do find myself wondering what people pay the extra money for when buying more "prestige" marques.

I totally agree with you. It's a well screwed together car. I'm very impressed with mine except for the usual VAG steamed up windows like my Octavia suffered from. I can't fault anything else. Comparing it to my Citigo Sport then it is a Prestige car [emoji16]

I find the aircon will quickly sort out steamy windows in ours.

(my Polo does the same, as did the Up! before it)

It does yes quite quickly except the tailgate glass which is steamed up badly like my Octavia was. Just like my Octavia by the time you switch the HRW on its just about clear 13 miles later when I get home from work [emoji57]

Mine and a work colleagues Audi are the only ones all steamed up in the car park whereas all other makes have nice clear windows [emoji19]

Typical VAG problem but my Citigo doesn't suffer from this so I use that most of the time.

Ha!  I was going to post about the steamed up windows.  Not just me then

I have never had a misting problem on any car I have owned, including three VW Polo's.   Maybe it's because I avoid using the Air Recirculation button unless there are particularly pungent odours outside?   I also clean the windows regularly inside using an "anti-mist" cloth (which is really just a cloth with a bit of alcohol based stuff impregnated into it.)

In wet weather, I either use the air con or have the driver's window open a fraction to prevent too much exhaled breath building up inside.

The only bugbear I have in wet weather is when the car has been standing in the work car park and I drive to the barrier, when I open  the window to swipe my car park pass I get a deluge of rainwater over my arm!   I thought it was only smokers that needed those rain deflectors over the windows, now I know differently!

  • 1 month later...

when my car starts up and I rotate the steering wheel I can here a click from behind the fuse box. It seems to be effected by the increase in revs that moving the steering wheel causes.

Its not too annoying as it disappears after 10 mins/5miles of driving.

Behind the fuse box is another unit which I think are some sort of relays. This is where the noise is coming from. Any suggestions?

Seems to be ok so far. However I'm now getting a squeak (like the wheezy squeak from a dogs soft toy) when you depress the clutch, the misty rear window and an odd (and inconstant) clunk from the front suspension when going over a speed bump (rather like a twang from a spring ). We'll see. Still fairly chuffed as great value for money.

I'm sorry to hear this too.   My Rapid 1.2TSI Sport is a sheer joy and the build quality is first-class.   Mine has covered 10,500 in six months, including a trip to the South of France in October, and honestly makes me wonder why people buy the more upmarket brands!

The only criticisms I can level at the design of the car, but I forgive "Roger Rapid" and just refer to them as "quirks", is the fact you have to stand back for a few seconds when you open the tailgate and the wet arm you get when you have to drop the window at the car park barrier after he has been stood in the rain.   His smoothness of design means the water cascades off him as soon as you start moving!

Yes I've had a few wet arms, it's the the same in the Citigo, a few wet legs as well in that.

When the wax fades off a little they become less of a water gush, until you re wax. :p

I can live with the drippy tailgate - not ideal but it is a minor annoyance. Getting wet when having to open the windows when it is raining or when the car is very wet is more of an issue. The inward slope means that the rain water and drips fall straight into the car and only the door armrest (and with it onto the electric window controls). Having previously decided I didn't want them on my Rapid, I have now gone ahead and ordered a set of Heko wind deflectors in order to try and combat the problem.

I disagree - the car is about as aerodynamic as a house brick and the exterior bodywork is a massive water trap. Water sits on the roof and other surfaces and doesn't disperse easily, even while driving. It's too square, with too many flat surfaces. I'm hoping the winter protection detail the car is having in the next week will improve this, as it will be getting a double coat of fresh wax.
