High beam all wrong?

Featured Replies

I have noticed my high beam is a bit far to the left when driving?

It´s hard to see but when there is fog outside i can see this. It sometimes starts out to the left but moves more to the center when i drive. I know the light is adaptive but it still feels like its much more to the left than the right one is to the right (get it? :D).

I could take a photograph when it was foggy. I snapped the photo when i was standing still with the steeringwheel straight (it looks like im turning but i am standing still),

Is this normal?

Mine does that albiet to the right and I have noticed that it is speed depentant. I have especially noticed this on country type roads which I think is to enable you to see pedestrians/cyclist more easily.

From the photo it looks like the beam on the left is the xenon light and the high beams themselves (i.e. the halogen bulbs) look straight enough - maybe its the way I am looking at it though.  On a wide road the beam will be more dispersed and if the car thinks it is on a wider road or motorway, the part of the road that you are not driving on will become more illuminated and this maybe what is happening on that particular road?

The beams should normally be offset slightly to the left (on RHD cars) to avoid dazzle with oncoming cars and I notice this on mine also and on every car I have owned regardless of adaptive.  The adaptive system is quite sensitive (at least on mine anyway) and it is constantly adjusting itself depending on road conditions and the type of road etc and I do find that the left side of the road is more lit up.

You mention your high beam though and I only find a very slight offset to the left on under normal driving conditions with adaptive.  When you are driving in fog I assume you have your fog lights on however and hence the adaptive system is not working as you will have to select the dipped beam option as opposed to auto on the light switch?  Are you noticing this offset on both manual and auto options?
