Having driven both, they might feel a bit different, but i would not say the Golf was better.

As to Running costs they are the same as far as i can see if you buy them, Leasing might be different..

Loaded S1's are neither here nor there, half those in the UK are still unsold, they are even more a 'Lifestyle Purchase'..

No comparison in value compared to the Golf R / S3 & only available as a manual.

Looking forward to seeing the A2 next year if it is still on Track.

& getting to try the Facelifted A1 1.8TSI DSG, but again thats not going to be 'Much Cheapness'.

Ex Demonstrator Leon Cupra 280's are available now at 'Much Cheapness'.

Again a car the Road Testers like, and customers are not buying.

  • Bl****y hell. Not sure I'm in any rush to tamper with the ECU, it's quick enough standard, on a public road anyway. It's noticeably quicker in a straight line than my mapped Octy, and chassis wise in

  • Facelift A6 has 272 hp in mid-range DSG spec and only £130 a year to tax (155mph + 5.5 s 0-60 + mid 40's mpg).   Big discounts too (22%) make them cheaper on PCP than you might think. Just go easy w

Thanks Geoff! ;-)

What ballpark figure are we talking about for a Cupra 280 cheapo ex-demo?

5 door red with leather and 1,500 miles £22,500

They were advertising at £24.500 +

But are having to get real.   There are a good few sitting now needing buyers.

Nice, lots of performance for not much dollar :-)

Would you want an ex demo though?

Would you want an ex demo though?

Gently run in by someone of course...

Well maybe not the one i have driven, but i want it,

and its not being used for Demos,

its like many cars,  'A Management Vehicle',

Which often means anything from a Demonstrator, to a Press / Media car, Hire car or DRiving School Vehicle these days.

Im probably abit too particular.

If i was spending that kind of money. I wouldnt want it to of been thrashed from 0 miles on the clock and a cold engine.

Seen showroom staff drive before. I wasnt best impressed lol.

I'd imagine "management vehicles" or those taken home by sales staff are often abused pretty hard.

My current car was a an ex demo / sales mans car. I don't have a problem buying like again, but I'd rather choose my does. £23k for a leon 280 is frankly bonkers. One for my missus then.

Id of thought so.

As a rule. If it isnt owned by the person themselves, they'll thrash the life out of it.

Or thats what I've found.

Haha! Geoff-ski lol ;-)

Oi you've got your cards marked ;) working in the industry I'd have to agree with you, a few (like me) are careful and treat the car like our own but others will rag them

The Abarth I used to have was an ex-demo. Had only done 1500 miles in 6-months tho and driven by the Abarth sales guy to and from work each day. Didn't worry me tho too much as the deal was so good and I never keep my cars that long anyhow lol

Haha ;).

Yeah same.

To be fair though. If somebody gave me a 280bhp leon, with fuel payed for and everything, completely free, n i just got to give it back a short time later too. Id drive it pretty hard too lol.

That's not what EVO or car concluded. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've read that the major difference is that the esp can be completely disabled in the golf, not so in the audi; plus the golf can have a lot more torque sent to rear wheels if "needed" so much more throttle adjustable handling. Also, VW parts are cheaper than audi parts, even if they are from the same supplier. That and a cheaper price spec for spec does it for me.

A leon 280 though at £8k less... Tempting if they really are out there available on a deal.

The works pool cars which we use to get parts and run errands and customers can borrow get seriously hammered. 61 S3, 62 Merc E250, 57 530D M Sport.

A mate of mine used to work offloading brand new cars from transport ships at a very large UK dock.

He confirmed that they used to thrash them all to within an inch of their lives from cold whenever they could. Especially so with the performance cars. Quite a few picked up knocks! The cars would often run out of fuel whilst being driven to the holding areas too as the factory would but only put the tiniest amount in the tanks then these guys would have the cars bouncing off the rev limiter along the dock :-(

In the E60 it gets 1/2 a tank of Diesel which I'll normally use all of and have to fill up to the top if I'm doing a routine customer car pickuo

They shouldnt use s3's, 530d's n whatever else it they dont want you to drive em fast ;).

Id feel id let myself down if i didnt redline it as much as possible.

After all, its essentially a rental car. The fastest cars.

stever750,

are you tracking the car, because in the UK i doubt what EVO and other testers say about disabling the Traction Aids matter one little bit.

You can do double the UK NSL in either of them quite easily without need Race / Track Mode.

But we also use the cars too, being the oldest the E60 is least used by customers. They are redlined by a few of the lads. It's had so much work done on it.

I can do that in a 1.7 van

Having seen a GTR being well used on the road, in race mode.

I dont think an R would be a problem for the really keen drivers tbh.
