Fabian VRS DSG problem?

Gunnell

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've been having a problem with my VRS where whenever the car changes gear it jerks/lurches forward, however not when I floor it. It had a service a few weeks ago but the garage couldn't find a problem. It has now started getting worse. Has anyone come across this before?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Plenty have come across it before.

Do you mean the car had an Oil Change / Filter annual type service.

What age and mileage of car?

How long have you had it.

Has the DSG had the Service Campaign Work,

Oil changed to Mineral & the ECU Update after they checked the Mechatronic Control Unit?

Hi

Yeah it was an annual service. It's a 61 plate and just hit 24000 miles. I've had the car a year. I'm not sure what work the DSG has had and I can't find my service paperwork at the moment.

What do you think the problem is?

You are gonna just have to floor it absolutely everywhere I'm afraid! ;-)

The Service campaign on the DSG Gearboxes only started in May 2014,

So you need to call Skoda UK Customer Services and see if your car requires the Field Work doing.

Or the Dealer can and should have told you.

So you need to see if the DSG requires work.

The problem might be the Clutch Packs or the Mechatronic Control Unit.

Probably the later.

at 24,000 miles you should maybe get the spark plugs checked.

the service schedule is 40,000 miles.

but some fail before that,

before 25,000 miles.

Do you run it on Super Unleaded 99 ron

Tesco Momentum or Shell V-Power Nitro?

It is not a recall, just a Service Campaign.

They did not all need it,

but best to call Skoda UK Customer Services just to double check if your car does need it done.

I would try using the 99 Ron Super Unleaded,

Tesco Momentum or Shell V-power Nitro.

The Recomended Fuel is Super Unleaded 98 ron,

Sainsbury, Esso & BP Super Unleaded is 97 Ron Minimum.

Mine was doing something very similar, 61 plate 32000 miles. started maybe three weeks back, serviced by Skoda at 30000 miles, changed spark plugs at the weekend, hasn't done it since also the car now drives 10 times better! I was panicking thinking DSG as the warranty ran out in August :-| but so far so good. Also I run on momentum or v-power depends where in the country I am.

The thing about the Warranty is,

the DSG is going to have to require goodwill from Skoda / VW.

They knew they could have faults since 2012 if not earlier, they did recalls in other world regions,

and only started a Service Campaign in May 2014 in the UK.

& have not explained much & if the DQ200 DSG has a Service Schedule now that there is Mineral OIl in from the Factory or

after a Field Action.

The faults are a VW Design or Manufacturing fault or Components / Software,

& yet the Manufacturers think that if there are issues after any Service Campaign Work they can blame the Dealership doing the work.

VW / Skoda / Seat / Audi have not put a 100,000 mile Warranty on the DSG in the UK /EU like in other World Regions.

They just try to get away with the least they can.

(Only a few vehicles requiring preventative actions so Skoda NZ do things properly.)

....................................

Skoda / VW have never changed the Service Schedule / Guidelines on the Spark Plugs from 40,000 miles,

Yet they know that many engines have had 1 or more Spark Plugs failing in 1/2 that mileage.

I'd get rid of it, especially if it's out of warranty.  Do you want to hang on to it hoping it's going to be OK?  Because if it isn't OK, it's going to cost you between £1000-£3000 to replace the clutch packs / mechatronic unit.

I'd rather take that money and buy a new car.

I did this last week with my Fabia vRS, now driving a 2014 Octavia vRS.
