The fact is mass air travel is only possible by using oil based fuel. Even airliners have had to become more efficient, look at the films of jets over 20 years old belching out black smoke.

Maybe next time the Global Environment Council (who, excuse my ignorance, I've never heard of) will cycle or row canoes to their meeting.

  • That convinces me you don't have any facts to back up your claim. Good luck informing an insurance company that you've made an illegal modification, its like telling them you've fitted slick tyres !!

  • If you remove it completely it needs replacing with a straight-through section of exhaust. This then offers the MOT tester a visual confirmation that the DPF has been removed and he then has grounds t

  • What about the environment, global warming and peoples health ?

Or stay at home and use one of a very many different but widely accessible sources of audio visual communication.

Our company has just installed Cisco Telepresence which now negates the need to travel for all but the most important meetings...

Its great, a good example of how pollution can be reduced by limiting travel. If everyone does their bit - eg by not deleting dpfs off modern cr diesel cars - then the world will be a better place.

my DPF chucks out all the crap its collected when it regenerates so.........how is it cleaner?

It's cleaner because instead of putting out particles of carbon, which look bad and more importantly have been linked to lung cancer and heart disease, it converts them to carbon dioxide, which is colourless and odourless and essential plant food :)... I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the pollution I breathe while cycling or driving through Irish cities and towns is from open coal fires though. On still days I can tell by smell whether I'm driving through a built up area or not in winter the pollution is so bad. I'm pretty sure it's only thanks to it mostly being windy and the population density being very low here that the air is breathable at all.

There's also this to keep in mind - basically motorists are a very easy target, so that's why they keep getting hit with more costs: http://www.industrytap.com/worlds-15-biggest-ships-create-more-pollution-than-all-the-cars-in-the-world/8182?ModPagespeed=noscript

When my DPF began to die it too failed to collect all of the soot and when regenerating there would be smoke from the exhaust.

So even a car with it's DPF fitted can still smoke.

Clean / shiny tailpipes show a working DPF, soot covered tailpipes (or more importantly a reading during the soot rest during an MOT) does not necessarily mean the DPF has been removed.
