Improving the handling/braking of my VRS

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Stage 1 REVO VRS (mk1). It goes very, very well but I'd like to improve the handling without ruining the ride.

Bearing in mind that this is a 2 grand car, I want to enhance it, but without going down the Eibach/Bilstein route, or any other premium solutions.

I'm looking at putting mk1 Audi S3 alloys onto the car, which are 17's, so my brake upgrade will need to fit behind these. Ultimately, I'd like a little more power, but don't anticipate going past Stage 2.

All ideas/advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ian

Anti roll bar upgrade???

Hi the best way to improve the handling is to fit a rear antiroll bar as they don't have one as standard,

shocks and spring wise is a can of worms you could buy cheap coilovers for £200 but u get what u pay for with quality and performance, the lower u go with these the worse the ride is,if u want to keep the oem ride style maybe refresh the shocks for new standard ones from gsf/euros and premium lowering springs with a 20mm drop.

If upgrading to s3 wheels I assume u have an estate with 16inch spyders as all uk saloons came as std with 17s unless someone has swaped them, the Octavia vrs front brakes are quite big already 312mm discs maybe they just need some uprated discs and pads and brake fluid change this will make a huge difference, it will cost u a fortune to go bigger than this ie leon cupra r brembos .

Hi Will,

It has 17" spyders on already, I just don't like the style. i saw a gallery picture on the wheels section on here of a white car with S3 wheels and really liked the look.

In terms of brakes, the car had standard VAG discs and pads all round in January, 3000 miles ago, so i'll get the brake fluid done as well and see how they are then.

Is there a particular rear anti-roll bar to fit? I'll look at some good quality lowering springs as well.

Thanks for your tips, these are exactly the kind of mod suggestions I'm looking for in line with the car's value.

if you look here you will find a lot of useful guides on upgrades  :D

Ive fitted a audi TT strut brace, audi TT wishbone bushes and pollybush anti-roll bushes, those have really changed how it behaves on the road

I have r32 front end and lcr brembos beibg fitted soon. Just had rear anti roll bar fited and ong what a difference

Are you on stock shocks and springs? Think I'll be doing the strut brace thing soon.

Yeah on stock springs and shocks

Sounds good, do the golf iv rear anti roll bars bolt straight on as well?

Nuespeed anti roll bars for the win!

Not sure I'd want to put them on with stock suspension though....maybe that's just me! Haha

Make sure you're sitting down when they tell you how much they are........

Worth every penny though!

How about Whiteline at 158 nicker?

Hey, when I first got my combi estate, the first thing I did was fit a eibach front and rear anti roll bars, followed by the ap shocks and spring kit. Lowers the car by 25-30mm all purchased from Damian from DPM on this forum. Night and day difference, I also changed all my bushes at this time too as they we're from factory!

On the brake front a set of performance pads and performance brake fluid would see you right! For stage one.
