Winter Tyres - Pirelli Sottozero 3

Featured Replies

Morning All,

I have been offered a good deal on some Pirelli Sottozero 3 winter tyres and am contemplating fitting them to my Octavia Estate Elegance 2.0TDI. I was curious if anyone had any views (good or bad!) on these tyres, I have done some research online and the tyres seems to get a lot of good feedback but was just wondering if anyone on here had any first hand experience with them?

Also, the tyre supplier has offered to supply these tyres in the following size 225/50/17 or 225/40/17, what would the pros and cons be of going for either of these sizes?

Thanks in advance.

What size tyres do you current have on the elegance?
Put your current tyre size & the sizes above into this website: http://www.willtheyfit.com/

You should choose the tyre size which gives the smallest rolling circumference difference to your current tyres.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply and information, I pick up the car next week but it believe the tyre size is 225/45/17 (according to the brouchre)

It would be better to fit 225/45/R17 tyres to your car then because then the speedo error is 0%.

If you fit 40 or 50 to your car the speed will read over or under by ~3.5% (62.5kph or 57.5kph at real 60kph).

I did a quick check on a tyre website & 225/40/R17 doesn't seem to be available.

Are you sure it wasn't 225/45/R17 ?

There is no difference in price of the Pirelli's for the 225/45/R17 and the 225/50R17 so I would ask the garage for the correct size.

You can also probably fit 16" wheels (steel or alloys) to your car which will make the tyre price a bit cheaper. if you are concidering keeping the car a long time.

I've had these fitted on my Fabia Monte Carlo over the past two winters, brilliant tyres, not only amazing in the snow but also in wet weather conditions, you notice a huge difference over standard summer/all season tyres.

You will notice an increase in noise and a slight reduction in fuel economy, however for the extra all weather grip they are well worth the money, highly recommended.
