VRS Intercooler Pipe

Featured Replies

Have the age old problem of the lower intercooler pipe (small 90 degree one) popping off due the usual worn lugs. Been looking around and various solutions seem to revolve around using self tapping screws and clips to hold it in place. I can see how the screws would work, but not sure how the clips serve any purpose as the pipe fits inside a bit of solid plastic housing?!

Are there any other option available, such as an upgraded pipe from somewhere? I did a quick ebay search and a new pipe is over £100!! Seems like madness for such a small bit of pipe with some badly designed metal lugs.

Cheers

Mike

Self tappers are a perfectly acceptable solution, you're simply trading the mechanical retention of the metal lugs for the mechanical retention of metal screws and as such it is considered a permanent repair.

Definitely a permanent repair. :)

Try your local TPS dealer, sure I paid less than £100 a year ago, give them a call.

I paid £112 with new clips two weeks ago from tps in bristol.

Had exactly the same problem but somehow I didn't feel the self tapping screw was a good enough reliable fix. The pipe of my broke after 100000 miles. I looked at a upgrade such as the forge or similar. The tight bend of it means if you buy parts and make a hose it ends up being around £50-£60 and it might not fit due to the tight angle and short length.

For the cost of it another 100000 seems reasonable even if it is a bad design.

Either that or a good fix until a front mount upgrade. I'm sure someone would buy one for half price in good condition.
