Glovebox light

Featured Replies

Does the glovebox have a light? Mine doesn't seem to have, and I can't find a setting that says turn it off.

Yes it does, it's in top of te glove box.

Note: this is for a RHD model.

It does have a light but on mine at least the plunger had a tendency to stick so it didn't come on. The plunger switch for the light is on the body of the car to the LHS of the glovebox about half way down. I removed the glovebox and put some silicone grease on the plunger which seems to have helped. See the 2nd picture below for the location of the switch.

How to remove the glovebox on a RHD was *not* obvious and the instructions in the manual are pretty hopeless. Ignore the instructions about pulling off the cover on the end of the dash next to the door, you'll never figure out which of the multitude of holes behind the panel you are supposed to stick the screwdriver through and there's a risk you'll poke at something important.

First step is to unclip the stay that makes the glovebox open smoothly. It's on the LHS of the glovebox and is connected to the glovebox tray via a slot in the outside of the tray:

Follow the stay from the glovebox back to the body of the car, you'll probably need a flashlight but you should see where it clips on. Use a screwdriver along the side of the glovebox tray to gently unclip it upwards. The tray itself is held on by the bottom hinge, which consists of  two 'C' shaped clips moulded into the tray that in turn clip onto to hinge bars on the car body. To remove the tray, close it about 3/4 of the way and pull upwards, that part of the instructions in the manual is correct.

Replacement is the same process in reverse, just make sure the stay is fully extended and keep it held up as you shut the tray about half-way, then clip it back on to the body of the car using a screwdriver.

Cheers. I think the plunger is my is problem, light mech is the same as the ones in the boot and works perfectly.

I couldn't see any obvious way of removing the switch itself, mine started working after a bit of lubrication and jiggling of the plunger.
