Pi springs fitted, xenons fine until today.....

Featured Replies

Got my Pi lowering springs fitted last Monday, as well as a Whiteline rarb and replaced the drop links all round with Lemforder ones. All was good to start with but slowly over the week a knocking sound has been more prevalent.usually makes a noise when pulling off and braking.however today it's been awful, and when I have changed camber at slow speeds, like going up ramps, it sounds like a bag of spanners in the boot even tho there's nothing in there and hardly any movement. Then to top it off, I was driving in the dark and the xenons decided to point right down almost Infront of the car and won't move back up.....any ideas?

Have you dislodged the auto leveler on the headlights seems like it could have come free, when i fitted my whiteline rarb it was fine for about 8 days then was terrible, creaking and groaning undid it all and blathered it with red rubber grease all fine now.

My RARB clunks and creaks but only when its wet

Sound like your dampers but could be wrong.Often when lowering on original damper they can blow sometimes internally.

It sounds like the auto leveler has come loose...anyone got any idea what it looks like and where abouts in the rear it is?

There is a silver arm connecting the levelling sensor to the rear axle near the left rear wheel. It clips on to two ball joints, one on the axle and one on the sensor itself.

its possible who ever fitted the springs didnt re-fit the sensor arm as above.

Turns out front sensor is the issue for the headlights-post-119919-0-12222600-1415553318_thumb.jpg

When I had the springs changed the mechanic obviosuly didn't disconnect the sensor and just dropped the suspension. The silver arm links the sensor arm to the chassis and the rubber from one end has now come out and won't go back in as they are crimped! Grrr.

Also, the horrible noise from the rear is either the left rear spring on damper, but im thinking the spring due to the type of noise.

Any idea how to get the rubber bit back in or a part Number of not?

Take it back and get the mechanic to do it properly

In my case the rubber actually broke off the silver arm too, and I reckon it was the people who fixed my car after a recent bump that broke it. Luckily I managed to use epoxy resin to fix it.

When I researched I found it was very irritating as you can't buy the arm separately from the sensor so you pay either for a new or used entire unit or fix what you have. However, when I researched, I found the rear sensor is available from China for only 45 quid, but of course a bit of a wait. You could then perhaps keep the arm to replace your broken one, and maybe sell the sensor itself on ebay. See: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OE-Headlight-Leveling-Sensor-Assembly-For-VW-Jetta-Golf-Variant-Passat-B6-CC-FWD-/221590359843?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3397d08f23 for example.

I am assuming of course the metal arm is the same size front and rear but I think they are looking at the pics.

What do you think of the springs mate regardless of the problem?

Massivley improve the look, I really like them.just need to re seat the spring properly and get some 15mm spacers for the rear :-D

Looking at the crimped end, surely you can gently move it sufficiently out so you can crimp the plastic back on.

As chris says take it back and get it rectified by the guys who fit your suspension.

Yes in this case you could probably prove they had to fiddle with the sensor arm.. I couldn't in my case although I suspect they did!

Sensor all fixed.turns out the noise at the back was the anti roll bar, the Middle hole was worn larger than the bolt (the previous owner clearly had it on more than month like he stated, or rammed some larger bolts through) which was causing the metallic knocking and crashing sound.moved it into the soft setting and no more knocking.bushes still creak slightly even tho they are Teflon coated ones.....
